How to Create a Beautiful Pink and Green Tablescape

Hello and welcome to our beautiful pink and green tablescape! This design uses my lovely new tablecloth gifted to me by Decor Mantra, and is the second in my little series using it. It’s a completely different look than the first, which you can read about in this post. A Beautiful Green and White Tablecloth For a Beautiful Table.

In that first post, I mentioned that my husband gave me a great idea for a blue color combination – and that table is coming. But I was so excited about the pink, that I just had to share it first! So here we go.

Pink and Green Was Calling My Name

One of the reasons I chose the green and white tablecloth, is that I’ve been deliberately stretching my tablescaping horizons recently. I didn’t have much green in my hosting closet, and thought it would be a great inspiration for branching out into a new pattern and color.

I’d been noticing pink and green tablescape designs on Pinterest and on other blogs, and the colors were so pretty together. As soon as I unwrapped the tablecloth, I knew I wanted to try it with pink.

Starting My Pink and Green Tablescape With an Idea

My first idea with this tablescape was pretty relaxed. I thought I’d go to the grocery store on my way home, and grab some pink flowers, then take it from there! I had a variety of soft pink shades in mind, and I’d just get 3 or 4 batches of whatever flowers were available.

Well, there were exactly two varieties available! And both of them, very vibrant pink! Beautiful, but not quite what I was imagining.

I’ve honestly never seen the flower section so sparse! But you get what you get, so I grabbed these lovely roses and gerberas, and toddled on home to my beautiful tablecloth.

I wasn’t positive where’s I’d go originally, but now I really wasn’t sure.

When the First Combination Didn’t Work

My next thought was to use rose gold with the green. I got out my lovely rose gold chargers, some copper flatware, tall slender rose gold candlesticks, and even some rose gold place card holders. I chose our regular white dinner plates, and put the floral salad plates on top, which is one of the very few pink things I have. Then I added a peach/pink napkin in between.

But it really didn’t work. It was all just too much, especially with those vibrant flowers. I realized that my tablecloth really was “patterned!” When I’d set the green and gold table before, it all just felt green. But now with these different colors and patterns, the design was really noticable, and the table felt a little frantic.

The Change That Made My Pink and Green Tablescape Work

I loved all the pieces individually – the flower were bright and dramatic, and especially since I’d bought them for this table, I wanted to keep them. So instead of changing the flowers, I changed the rose gold.

I’ve always thought that silver works kind of like a neutral on a tablescape, so I figured I could do worse than to try silver instead. Still keeping the pink napkins and salad plates, which I also loved. The minute I swapped out the rose for the silver, I had my Aha moment! You know when your table finally comes together? That was the feeling I had. SO much nicer with the silver!

The place settings became the supporting players to my vibrant pink centerpiece’s stardom. Just enough of the accent color to be cohesive and let the tablecloth be a beautiful background instead of an extra pattern source.

I would never have thought it, but with the silver, the tablecloth created a completely different background for this pink and green tablescape than it had for the green and gold one I did before. I feel like a tablecloth researcher now!

My DIY Salad Plates Found Their Table

Speaking of the salad plates, one of my favorite things to do with salad plates, is make my own! Check out this tutorial to see how it works Do you want a fabulous solution to two classic table setting problems?! The gist is to make temporary plates so you can have endless designs and only one stack of clear glass plates to store.

But I loved these temporary plates so much, that I ended up putting dishwasher-safe Mod Podge on them so I could keep them. I’ve had them for years now, and they’re still beautiful and in good shape. (I do wash them carefully by hand, though I’m sure Mod Podge wouldn’t lie about being dishwasher safe. I just don’t want to take any chances.)

They work so well on this table because, as I mentioned, there’s just enough of the accent color to tie everything together. (Besides, they’re complementary colors on opposite sides of the color wheel, which is something I never learned about in school because I was too busy singing instead of doing art! But my son told me later.)

Mixing Old Favorites Into a New Pink and Green Tablescape

The tablecloth and the flowers were really the only new things on our pink and green tablescape. The various silver pieces have been with me for years.

My mother started my silver flatware collection back when I was 15 when my father gave me a hope chest for my birthday. She added pieces to it for birthdays and holidays over the years, and when I got old enough, I added to it myself.

I still think it’s one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Mom chose the pattern, but if I got to start over, I’d choose it again in a heartbeat.

The lovely ornate silver chargers are some that I originally saw on another blogger’s table, and fell in love with. I immediately bought them using her affiliate link. (I love to reward the people who introduce me to something I love!)

Creating the Right Centerpiece

When it came to creating the centerpiece, I of course had many options. From the beinning though, I had been thinking about a more central arrangement than I’d been doing lately.

One of my favorite – and easiest – techniques is just to put small vases or glasses down the center of the table and put in flowers randomly until I run out. But I wanted something a little more structured for this one, plus I didn’t really have enough flowers to fill up the whole length of the table.

So I went down to my vase storage area and just looked around. I guess that’s exactly what they mean by shopping your home! I liked this footed crystal bowl because it would be giving some height to the table, as well as being glamourous without introducing another color. We’d already been down that path!

So onto the table it went!

The Finished Pink and Green Tablescape

As you can tell, this table had its ups and downs, but I know it came out alright in the end. My wonderful husband is very used to seeing our dining room table decorated any number of ways on any given night, so he doesn’t necessarily comment on them.

But when he came home from work to this table, he actually told me how nice it was! That was a great endorsement for something that was so out of the ordinary for me.

One Tablecloth – Completely Different Looks

My beautiful green and white Decor Mantra tablecloth continues to surprise me! It looks and functions so differently in different circumstances. With the green and gold table, I mostly saw green. The green leaves of the centerpiece just continued the predominant color.

With this pink and green tablescape, the cloth became almost like the foliage under a garden of flowers. A beautiful backdrop to the bright centerpiece and place settings.

I can’t wait to show you the blue and green table my husband originally suggested for this tablecloth. It’s yet another look. (That design actually gave me a completely different problem to solve than the one I got with this table – but more on that next time!)

Other Ways to Use a Pink and Green Tablescape

As I always say, one of the great things about any tablescape is that with only a couple additions or little changes, you can repurpose it for just about any occasion. I liked this table so much, that I thought I’d actually add and change it right now! It would make a perfect table for all these occasions and more!

Birthday, Mother’s Day, Graduation, Shower, or anything celebratory: For a birthday tablescape, Mother’s Day tablescape, etc. you can add a small gift to the honoree’s plate.

Maybe some streamers that match the flowers too – you can hang them delicately over the overhead light, for instance. (Just make sure to keep them away from the lightbulbs!)

Spring or Summer, or even Easter: For a spring or summer tablescape, add some little birdy or other seasonal figurines to the middle of the table. They’ll be fun to look at and good conversation pieces too. You could do bunnies instead for an Easter tablescape.

A Tea Party Tablescape: Just about any table can be perfect for a tea party! In this case, we added the fun teapot place card holders, and of course, your teapot, sugar, and creamer.

Just remove the tableware pieces you don’t need, and add the ones you do. Here, I traded the wine glasses for teacups and saucers, added teaspoons, and moved the salad fork up to the top of the plate to turn it into a dessert fork!
