A Beautiful Green and White Tablecloth For a Beautiful Table

When Decor Mantra reached out to me and asked if I’d like to try one of their table linens, I eagerly said yes, and picked out this beauful green and white tablecloth!

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but I was absolutely thrilled when I unpacked it! I had checked out their website of course, and everything they had was lovely. The real thing definitely lived up to its promise. My green and white tablecloth is beautifully made – heavy cotton with a wonderful print that’s applied by skilled crafters – by hand. Their website has lots of details about the actual craft and process, which is fascinating.

I love their philosophy too! They only use fair trade crafters and co-ops. Also non-toxic dyes. And their manufacturing, packaging, and shipping are as environmentally friendly as possible. That’s a company I can really get behind.

I couldn’t wait to use it and share it with you! I was so excited about it, that I kept forgetting the things I actually wanted to use on the table! After I set some piecess, I stopped to take pictures at several points, then I’d remember something! I’d add that, take more pictures, add another thing, and so on! So I’ll walk you through the various stages.

The place setting for the green and white tablecloth

First, one of the reasons I chose this particular tablecloth from among all the beautiful table linens Decor Mantra had, is that I don’t have a lot of green, and I wanted to get something different.

I really only had one green china pattern in my collection. In fact, I only have two settings of this one because I got them for a tablescape competition a few years ago. So I put that on the table, and I was immediately happy with it. It’s not the same style at all, but that’s what made it so exciting to me! I love the rich green and gold of the china against the light playful tablecloth.

Because the gold was so prominent in the china, I went with gold for the other pieces too. My gold chargers are simple plain ones that I’ve had for years.

The flatware has a story too – almost all my pieces do! This was a set my mother got from the bank she worked for when they were clearing out all the demo sets of the Premiums they used to give depositors. I can thank the bank for a lot of my collection!

And the gold goblets were Mom’s. I don’t know where she got them, but I just love them!

Adding the centerpiece

After I took a zillion pictures of this configuration, I realized I didn’t have a centerpiece. I always love something in the middle of the table, so I looked around the yard to see what was blooming. We actually did have several different types of lovely flowers, but I was crushing on this green, gold, and white combination and I really didn’t want to add another color in.

So I just picked some different varieties of greenery and put them in little votive holders as vases. I wanted them to be particularly low because the dishware was so beautiful on that green and white tablecloth.

I started setting the table in the late afternoon, and the light was really bright. You can see it bringing out the bright green of the leaves.

I had to pin the wisteria leaves down with the votives to keep them from blowing away, and I don’t remember how many times I had to put the greenery back in their vases! Here’s a little video for your breeze amusement.

But it sure gives you a great view of my beautiful new green and white tablecloth!

Candles are always lovely!

Then after the next zillion pictures, I thought I’d love to have some candlelight, since it was going to be getting dark by the time we ate. So I added some gold taper candle holders with white candles to keep that freshness from the tablecloth going.

I do also have lovely deep gold tapers, but I thought it would be a good balance to keep them lighter.

Then, I realized I didn’t have any napkins! If you’ve ever eaten with me, you know I can barely get through the appetizer without both a knife and a napkin. I’m not sure why, but there you are. So next up, were the napkins!

Besides the fact that I didn’t have any dark green napkins, I thought the white was in keeping with the vibe, and, with the candles, kept some white balance on the table. (The bread plates and soup bowls were white too, of course. I just wanted to keep it extra light with all that lovely deep green and gold.)

At this point, the wind kicked up again, and honestly, this picture was so funny, I just had to share it! Doesn’t it look like some sort of ship sailing across the lawn? (And speaking of, please excuse the condition of the lawn. We’re still in backyard renovation mode.)

Then the chairs, and voilà!

Oops – one more thing on our green and white tablecloth

At this point, I realized that with all this wind, the candles were never going to stay lit, and they’d get wax all over my lovely tablecloth too! So, I ran inside and got the little glass chimneys I use for situations like this.

They do a great job, and I love the way they look!

Here’s one when the sun is starting to go down. Don’t you love how the sky changes color? This low gold sun reflected so beautifully off the gold in the place settings.

And it was gorgeous! In my mind, there’s just nothing like an al fresco table setting with candlelight!

Even though this was a romantic tablescape for two, you could use this idea for any outdoor entertaining or tablescape. Or any of the green holidays even – a St Patrick’s Day tablescape for instance. Maybe you could substitue shamrocks for some of the greenery in the centerpiece.

There’s no end to the ways you can make a tablescape work for just about any occasion.

Especially with a beautiful green and white tablecloth!

Back when I was unpacking my new tablecloth, I was musing aloud about what pieces I could use with it, and my husband suggested a blue combination that I would probably never have thought of! I did take pictures of that one too, and it made me realize, as I often do, that I could set all kinds of different tables with this cloth, and get lots of different looks!
