Hi All – I’m so excited about this terrific red fall tablescape! I guess I never really thought about red as a fall color, but it’s totally working!
And I’m so happy to be part of the Welcome Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Chloe at Celebrate and Decorate!
If you’re coming from the talented Andrea at Design Morsels, or you just got here on your own, welcome! I’m so happy you stopped by! Be sure to check out all the other fall tablescapers at the bottom of this post!
Only a Little Red in the Red Fall Tablescape
I say RED Fall Tablescape, but there’re actually not that many elements that are red. Basically the napkins and the centerpiece.
And once you’re all settled at the table with napkins on your laps, we’re only left with the flowers.
Red Fall Tablescape Napkins
But really, it’s so cool that you can introduce so much color with just a napkin. I often fold the napkins into thin rectangles and put them under the salad plates. Not too much of them shows, so there’s really just a little color.
Here, I still put them under the salad plates. But I spread them way out, so they have a lot more surface area showing. And on the diagonal like this, they sort of fill up more space in the middle.
And finally, they’re all relaxed and flowy. More surface area again, and a more casual friendly look for our red fall tablescape.
Layered Cozy Tablecloths
As you may know, I totally love texture! Especially if it’s cream or white. For fall, it’s so nice to have some cozy texture, and layers too. This tablecloth arrangement has all of the above.
I used a matelasse coverlet for the base layer. It has a lot of texture of its own. But add the knitted throw, and you’ve got an extra double lot of texture!
I love how cozy it is, and how elegant at the same time. Our red fall tablescape is warm and beautiful with a classic white table topper.
Another thing I like about white tablecloths, is that if someone accidentally spills, they’re easy to bleach clean.
Red Fall Tablescape Flowers
The true star of our red fall tablescape is the centerpiece. It’s a lot bigger and taller than most of my centerpieces, so I’d probably move it for dinner. Looks great in the meantime, though!
This was another time when I only had a vague idea about what I wanted to do. Our dogwood tree is just starting to turn, and I loved the rusty green leaves. I knew I’d use some of them for drapey-ness.
But I didn’t really have an idea about the flowers. So I went to my favorite grocery store and looked around.
The first thing I saw was a beautiful bunch of orange alstroemeria. They happened to be within eye-shot of these gorgeous little carnations, and I liked the red and orange together.
I wandered some more, and found these lovely red roses that matched the carnations. And on my way out, I saw the lovely soft lamb’s ears.
It was just coincidence that they’re almost exactly the same color as the light green pumpkin plate!
Pumpkin Plates
Which brings us to the fun pumpkin plates – perfect for our red fall tablescape.
These were a gift from my sweet cousins a couple years ago. And while I’ve used them for appetizers, I’ve never put them in a place setting before.
These are our most overtly fall pieces, and they’re very subtle – just a dash of the seasonal vibe.
These particular plates are sometimes available on Ebay, but you can find lots of similar pumpkin-style plates out there. I’ve linked some in the shopping section further down in this post.
Gold Accents for the Red Fall Tablescape
Because gold is such a warm color, I used it as the accent color on this table. The middle vase, the pillar candle holders, and the votives are all gold mercury glass.
And I’ve gone off about my new flatware a couple times, here and here.
It’s the perfect final touch with the gold rimmed plates and the other gold accents.
Beer Glasses?!
Now those of you who are used to my tables, and my beverage preferences, may be wondering what the heck – Beer Glasses?!
Well, yes. Just because I’m not crazy about beer doesn’t mean I never serve it. My wonderful husband and most of our friends love it, and we often have some serious beer fans at our table.
Plus, beer glasses are cool looking and just right for fall I think! We have two styles – the straight sided pilsner …
… and the more curvaceous weizen.
(I know – I had no idea they had different names! I had to look it up, and if you want to look it up too, here’s the Wikipedia entry for beer glassware!)
Candle Tip #1
I may not know about beer, but I do know about candles! I wanted some cozy candlelight in our red fall tablescape, and these lovely mercury glass pillars were just right.
But even though wine will wash out of my blanket tablecloth, I was pretty sure wax wouldn’t.
So my first tip is to put your candle holders on little plates so when they drip, they won’t wreck your tablecloth.
Candle Tip #2
Candle tip #2 is really fun. Has this ever happened to you? When you go to re-use your pillar candles, you find that the wick is completely buried in the now hardened wax?
It happens to me all the time for some reason, and it’s really annoying. Also, I hate to throw them away when they’re only half used!
So here’s the secret tip. I just stick a little tea candle inside the big pillar candle! Tea candles in clear holders work the best because they blend in so well.
I do this all the time, and I’ve never had a single person notice. Plus you can keep your pillar candles a lot longer, since they don’t actually melt down anymore!

Barbara, I do love a terrific red fall tablescape and I remember this one. I could have sworn I commented on it but apparently not! Not sure how I missed it before, but I love all the soft colors that you’ve gathered together for this table. The red carnations and roses are a perfect match to the napkins and I love them paired with the gold accents – which also pick up the gold in those adorable appy pumpkin plates. And yes, we do have to cater to those beer lovers every once in awhile and that’s cool too! Neat trick about the tea light in the candle – I’ll have to remember that one. Lovely table my friend and thanks for all your inspiration!
Barbara Leone says
Ha – that happens to me all the time! Maybe there’s a Comment Gremlin … ? 🤣 Glad you like the table. Wouldn’t it be so fun to meet up and set one together sometime? One day … ! Happy Weekend in the meantime!

Barbara, I am so drawn to this lovely cozy Fall tablescape! You won me over immediately when you used a white quilted coverlet and a cozy white topper on that. The layers really wrap me in warmth! The use of hints of red in your napkin and floral centerpiece really make everything pop. Such a beautiful choice in colors and their amount. What a great tip to use tea lights in pillar candles that have already been burned and are coming to their end. I could go for a dark beer right about now.
Barbara Leone says
Oh I’m so glad you like it Marsha! And if you were here, I’d pour you a nice dark Portland craft beer! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by – it’s been great meeting you through the blog hop!
Rita C at Panoply says
Barbara, you had my at the matelasse and knit table coverings! The added joy of red on the table definitely lends itself to a fall glow, especially with the addition of your dogwood branches for that weathered effect. I love it. And the tip of adding a tealight to a buried wick in a candle is brilliant! Happy September, and it’s a pleasure to usher in fall alongside you on this roundup of table inspiration.
Barbara Leone says

The centerpiece is perfect for fall, the alstroemeria, carnations, roses, and lamb’s ear make a beautiful statement. The pumpkin plates are lovely and they add a little more autumn to the mix. Yet another truly gorgeous tablescape you have created, Barbara!
I am not a red fan – I have slowly given away most all the red I have ever owned……but yours is absolutely stunning. I may have to rethink this. Figures, huh? LOL.
Stay well. Hugs.
Barbara Leone says
Ha – thank you Michele – I know exactly what you mean. Many many years ago I had a huge copper collection, and many years ago I gave it away! It just makes me cry now, but someone somewhere is probably enjoying it a whole lot! 🙂 I’m so glad you like the table, and if you ever need some red napkins, you just give a call! 😉 Take care my friend, and see you soon on the blogs we love!
Sandra Garth says
The tea light tip is priceless, thank you very much. I love all the texture, it creates a very welcoming ambiance. The pilsner glasses are great! I was all excited about using mine on a tablescape and then I remembered, I gave them away. Don’t you hate it when that happens. Great ideas here and beautiful table.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Sandra! I DO hate it when that happens! I was just telling Michele that I gave away my collection of copper many years ago and am regretting it now. Glad you like the tea candle bit – it’s sure saved me lots of pillar candles! 🙂 So nice getting to know you on this fall hop – I’ll be stopping by your blog to visit again soon!

Barbara, You have a great grocery store! I’m impressed they had dusty miller with solid leaves. They are wonderful plants but hard to find.
I’m loving your light-filled photos. So artistic and your positioning of your napkins added a special flair. Your autumn plates went perfectly with your centerpiece. Your dogwoods are ahead of our area. If the truth be told ours receive so much heat they are unusable by now. I love the drapeyness and the rusty green colors of your branches.
Thanks for the candle tips. Very useful.
I enjoyed your presentation of your creative tablescape.
Barbara Leone says
Ha – yes I love our grocery stores! I always find such wonderful varieties. Our dogwoods seem to hold out until the very end but all the wind we’ve been having has brought the season mostly to a close! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by – I’ll be visiting your lovely blog often. So nice to be hopping with you!
Andrea says

What is not to love about this tablescape!? The layered tablecloths are probably my favorite because it just says warm and cozy! Isn’t that what we all long for this year? A warm and cozy dinner with friends! I guess my second favorite thing is how you draped your napkins. So relaxed and welcoming.
The tip about tea candles is brilliant! I sometimes have a hard time finding unscented pillars, so this is simply awesome. Hello! It’s nice to meet you here in the blog hop.
Barbara Leone says
So nice to meet you too Kim! I agree, cozy is what it’s all about for fall. 🙂 I have a hard time finding unscented candles too, so I was really happy to find these, and I use them all the time. I’m happy we got to hop together today! Hope you have a lovely rest of your week.
Chloe says
Barbara, your tablescape just makes me feel all warm and cozy! I know it is the textures of those layered white cloths! I love using different throws as table coverings, too! The subtle color changes of the dogwood leaves is the perfect expression of the changing season.
