Stop #24 ~ Finding History in Lancaster PA
TR’s journey from Cape Coral to Lancaster was about 1145 miles straight up the eastern edge of the US. And the trip came with yet another serious weather shift! She’s been back and forth from sun to snow more than a couple times now, and always has fun.
Linda has been blogging for years and years, and has, of course, written her own post of her day with Tessa Rose. She’ll tell most of this story, and has included lots more on her own site. I’ll give you the link to her story at the bottom of this post.
Starting the Day
Linda says
First, we started with a light breakfast. I need my coffee in the morning. Miss Tessa Rose didn’t mind at all.
Mmmmm! Yes I think that breakfast looks very good – do I spy a chocolate bunny?
Linda continues –
Afterwards, we headed out see a few historical and cultural highlights. I live in a place that is full of history; Lancaster City was founded in 1730. It’s also is a great tourist destination with something for all.
Central Market
Central Market is an amazing place where you can see part of the heart of Lancaster Country. Farmer produce and products like fresh goat cheese, plush handicrafts, and food! It boasts a large selection of international foods too. Lancaster is home to many people of different backgrounds from around the world.
Central Market is the oldest one in America, starting in 1730. It was in an open field. Eventually the current building was erected in 1889. Farmers brought their produce to sell and buyers came from as far as Philadelphia.
Beautiful Architecture
Outside, the square was almost empty, like the inside of the market. We stopped to admire the Romanesque Revival architecture. It was a cold blustery day. When Miss Tessa Rose posed for a photo she was shaking in her saucer! We hurried to the side alley out of the wind.
Look! Look Miss Tessa Rose! One of our mounted police! I think we’ll take our photo from a little distance though. I’m not sure I can hold you and pet the horse while we chat with him all at the same time. Oh, and take a photo!
She was a little worried as I tried to take a selfie in the blustry wind. So was I! Two friendly ladies stopped to help us out. I was able to keep her from shaking. But my hair!
The Covered Bridges of Lancaster County
Oh I love a covered bridge! I think they’re so romantic, and apparently Linda agrees!
A kiss with your sweetheart is a must when you go through a covered bridge! Be sure to stop in the middle. I can personally attest to fun stops with my sweetheart, husband of 41 years, Jim.
Linda’s Historic House
We relaxed at the house after the outing.
Our house is part of Lancaster history. It’s an over 200 year old plain farmhouse that was originally built and owned by a Mennonite family. Mennonites were early settlers in Lancaster. The unique feature is two front doors!
Wow – that’s great! I love the two front doors. And that porch looks like a wonderful spot to sit and watch the world go by. Looks like they did just that, and stayed cozy too!
It’s time to send Miss Tessa Rose on her way to Laura’s in Walla Walla, WA. Good bye Miss Tessa Rose. I am so glad you came to visit me in Lancaster!
Thanks To Our Special Teacup Host!
And we’re so glad you shared the visit with us, Linda! Thank you for being a wonderful teacup host, and for giving us some fascinating history as well!

Jennifer Howard says
Barbara, Did yo start the traveling teacup? I’ve seen so many of her advertures on everyone’s blogs!
Barbara Leone says
Hi Jennifer! Yes she started here, as a gift from one of my dear friends who just joked that she could become a traveling teacup! (In a completely different context.) But I thought it actually sounded like a good idea once we knew we were in for the long haul with the lockdowns, so off she went! It’s been so fun to see other people’s photos and stories! 🙂 I’m so glad you like the series! Thanks so much for popping over, and Happy Thursday!
Kim says
Wow! What a beautiful historic setting for Tessa Rose – if only she could talk. Heading over to Linda’s blog now. Happy Tuesday Barbara!!
Barbara Leone says
Yes! I love the history in old towns! Maybe when the Traveling Teacup is done traveling, I’ll write a story about all her visits from HER point of view! 😉 Thanks so much for following along Kim – you teacup hosts really stick together!
Andrea says
Lancaster looks so beautiful. I always look forward to seeing the teacups adventures. Thanks for such a fun trip.
Barbara Leone says
Hi! I would love to visit there sometime and get a personal tour from our lovely host – wouldn’t that be fun? Field Trip maybe?! Happy Almost Friday!
Michele / Finch Rest says
What a wonderful visit TR had this time. It’s so much fun to see new areas – and learn about their history with this series, Barbara.
I think it is awesome Linda and Jim’s home is over 200 years old! That is truly remarkable!!! Looks like it is truly built to last, too.
Hugs.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Michele! Yes – I love how we get to find out about the area! Lancaster sounds so darling doesn’t it? I also agree about Linda’s beautiful home – it must be so fun to live in a piece of history! Thanks so much for stopping by!
Kim | Shiplap and Shells says
This was so fun to see! Tessa Rose didn’t do any sight seeing when she was with me, so I’m always happy to see her fun adventures. And what could be better than the Central Market and a covered bridge!
Barbara Leone says
Oh Kim – she didn’t need to do anything but sit in your stunning garden, relax, and take in the view! Last summer seems like ancient history now, but what a gorgeous photo shoot that was! Each of you teacup hosts has something different and wonderful – I can’t believe all the fun we’ve had following along! 🙂 Happy Teacup Tuesday to You!
Mary from Life at Bella Terra says
Barbara, reading the traveling tea cup is like going on a mini-vacation! I love markets like the one shown above. I wish we had something like that here in Phoenix, but our city certainly doesn’t have the respect for historical places like they do back east. Tessa Rose is a lucky gal. I will go and check out Linda’s blog and story.
Barbara Leone says
Isn’t it wonderful? I loved looking at Linda’s photos and hearing the history – you’re right, there’s so much, back east! I know you’ll love Linda’s extras too! 😉 Happy Tuesday my friend!
Renae says
Tessa Rose really gets around. I would have loved to go on the adventures with her.
Blessings to you.
Barbara Leone says
Ha – she sure does! I wish I could have gone too, but she’ll be back here with you soon! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Renae – this is SO much fun!
