Woo – our traveling teacup is at WARM stop number six – Fountain Valley in So Cal, just outside sweltering Los Angeles!
If you don’t know about the Traveling Teacup yet, you might want to read the very first post. Basically, my dear friend gave me this lovely and fun teacup, and suggested that it might travel. So I asked my readers for teacup host volunteers, and the rest is history!
To Recap
Our teacup’s journey started just up the road at my dear friend Martha’s lovely Oregon farm. Then it was down to the Bay Area to see creator and HomeTalk personality, Cynthia Nessel of CreateWithCynthia.com.
Next was a cross country trip to the beautiful home of Kansas City stylist, Suzanne Zingg at Suzanne Zingg Style. Then on to Borger TX to visit Candace McCoy, owner of the Lifestyle blog Unfolding Beautiful.
The most previous stop was the gorgeous Lakebay WA cottage garden of Kim at Shiplap and Shells.
Stop #6 – A Hot So Cal Visit
And now off to the hot weather of So Cal! This is the home of the beautiful Julie Briones, writer of the decorating and DIY blog My Wee Abode. She gives her readers tips and inspiration for decorating smaller homes to live big!
As Julie says, “I’m sure the little teacup and saucer had a bit of a shock when they arrived from the cool PNW, only to be ‘hit-in-the-face’ with 100 degree So Cal temps!”
Here’s Julie’s account of how our little teacup spent its time with her, her family, and “friends!”
The Traveling Teacup Arrives in So Cal
When the sweet little teacup arrived in So Cal, I immediately decided that it would get a new traveling vessel at the end of our visit!
Oops – I guess the box is a bit worn out with its travels! Thank you Julie for getting it a new box and keeping our teacup safe!
When I opened the box, this is what I was greeted with!
It’s lovely, even in bubble wrap and packing peanuts (which, BTW, coordinated with the lovely pink flowers on the cup!)
A Morning Visit with “Friends”
The mailing address I often use is my sister’s address, as it’s a little precarious to receive packages at my townhouse community.
My mom lives with my sister and brother-in-law, so it was fun to unbox the teacup and introduce “her” to some of my mom’s treasures!
I think she looks rather happy to be visiting with so many friends!
My mom has received a teacup and saucer for almost every Mother’s Day since my sister and I were in our late teens. Usually, we included a custom floral arrangement, as well
Julie and I have talked about her mother’s amazing teacup collection many times! And we’ve marveled that we have so many of the same cups! I’d love to meet her mom some day and see her collection up close. I’m so happy our traveling teacup gets to party in So Cal!
Coffee In The Teacup
Since we were at Mom’s place, we decided to grab a ‘friend’, and have a cup of our fave beverage…
COFFEE!!!
Yep, Mom and I like a good cup of coffee in the morning, and this morning was no different.
The lovely single bloom inside the “star of our show” is a sweet surprise for the ‘drinker’.
And the pink-trimmed single-finger handle is enhanced with a little round ‘bead’ attached to the cup.
One more photo (and one more cup of coffee) before we leave for a busy day…
A Hot So Cal Day For Our Teacup
As we headed to My Wee Abode from my mom’s, I realized that this was not going to be a ‘hot’ beverage day. Lots of DIY and blogging work was on the agenda, and the thermostat was rapidly approaching the 100 point!
After working a bit on the coastal bathroom makeover, I was way overheated! It was time for some desk work and a cool snack.
Teacups… they aren’t just for drinking anymore! Who knew?!
For those that don’t know, the virtual Haven Conference kicks-off on Thursday, and I’m heading up to the PNW on Wednesday to retreat with my sweet friend, Jessica from Jessica Welling Interiors. We will be visiting her family’s beach cottage on Camano Island. (Don’t worry… we’ll be smart and safe.)
Lots of work was accomplished this afternoon, with blogging activities, photos shoots (this one specifically), editing of photos, planning my conference schedule, and opening happy mail.
At this point, it was TOO hot to do anything but sit and try to relax in front of the TV.
A Hot Evening With The So Cal Traveling Teacup
This evening the temperatures were extremely hot, and a hot cup of anything was just not going to cut it.
So, the traveling teacup cools down in So Cal in many different ways. Including with my fave COLD beverage of choice…
ICED TEA!
And so we wrapped up our busy little day… drinking a cool cup of ice tea and watching Christmas in July on the Hallmark Channel!
Wow! What a fun and productive time Julie! Thank you so much for entertaining our little So Cal traveler! And sharing your day, your lovely photos, and your story with us!
You can read extras about the teacup’s So Cal visit on Julie’s blog, My Wee Abode. Her post is The Traveling Teacup Cools Down in So Cal!
And Next …
Julie has tenderly repacked our teacup, and it’s off to the Midwest for a visit in beautiful Ohio! Stop back in next time!
