Roses and Rosé ~ And What To Do With The Bottles

Welcome to Roses and Rosé – and Bottles!

Rosé wine in a wine glass, bottle, and pink roses

This is kind of a two-part post. First I want to tell you about the fabulous rosé wine we had the other night! (And don’t you love that blue hour sky out the window?)

Rosé wine glass, Wine bottle, and dusky sky out the window

Part 1 ~ Cantina Zaccagnini Rosé Wine

Rosé is particularly great now that the weather is warming up in a lot of places. (Apologies to you folks who have been sweltering for weeks already, and also to those whose weather is just cooling off.)

Wine and roses

But I’ll admit, I like rosé any time of year! However, if you want to wait for another day, just pin the photo at the bottom of this post for later!

I may have mentioned it before, but my wonderful husband is a wine lover, and – conveniently – works in the wine industry. Because he’s surrounded by them every day, I get the benefit of being introduced to great new wines all the time.

Wine bottle and rosé wine in a glass

He brings home bottles I’ve never seen before, and the other day, he brought one from Cantina Zaccagnini – a 2019 Rosé that was absolutely delicious.

Pink Roses

I had just picked bucketfuls of gorgeous pink roses from our garden. So the whole evening was accented by the beautiful blooms and scents.

Big arrangement of pink roses on white counter

Every sniff and sip and sight of the wine that night included my pink roses.

Roses and wine

And the sniffs and sips were fabulous! I got soft white grapefruit and red raspberry, with smooth citrus-y edges, and a light spice scent in the middle. And maybe I just imagined the rosy overtones! The wine was crisp and chilled and perfect!

If you like a layered – yet friendly – light rosé wine, you’ll love this one. We sure did! Plus it’s a beautiful color at the dinner table!

Part 2 ~ Taking Flowers

Whenever I go to someone’s house for dinner or a party, I like to take flowers.

I also give flowers to my colleagues at work, or when someone is sick or as a birthday gift. If my mother in law’s favorite bush is blooming – or any occasion – or no occasion!

These days, I like to leave a little flower arrangements on friends’ porches. Since I can’t really visit them anymore, I just want to let them know I’m thinking of them.

How to Take Flowers?

Back in the day, I used to take flowers wrapped in paper. They were beautiful and lovely to receive.

But so many times, the receiver is busy cooking, or welcoming guests, or is lying in bed sick, and isn’t able to put them in water or arrange them right away.

That might be uncomfortable in the moment. It might also lead to your beautiful flowers being wilted by the time you head home.

Vases

So I started taking flowers that were already in vases. This was great when I walked in the door, but was not so great when the arrangement was done blooming.

Pink roses and herbs in a wine bottle

Did the receiver need to give the vase back? And if so, how soon did I need it? Would it be safe to drop it on my porch sometime if they just happened to be out my way? What if they couldn’t even remember whose vase it was?

Mason Jars

So I thought I would solve that problem by putting my arrangements in mason jars. Who could think I would need that back?

closeup of pink roses

But they still wondered, and I actually started wanting them back, especially during canning season!

Back at square one, I tried to think of something else. And while putting out our recycling one day, the answer descended!

Take Flowers in Bottles

Bottles! At any given time, we have lots of different bottles in our recycling bin. Olive oil bottles, vinegar bottles, wine bottles, enchilada sauce bottles – you name it.

Arrangement of pink roses and herbs

And bottles are particularly great if the occasion is a dinner! Some labels are really cool looking. And since the opening is so small, you don’t need a huge bouquet. A lot of times, I just clip one lovely rose bloom, and let it steal the show.

Pink rose flower arrangement on white counter

If the bottle itself is unremarkable, I tie a pretty ribbon or bow around the neck. Maybe with a little tag, if the occasion calls for it. It’s so easy for the host to receive, and nobody wonders if you need bottles back!

And that’s where my two stories converge. (I know you knew it was coming!)

Use Zaccagnini Bottles For Flowers!

I’m sure you saw this coming too. The Zaccagnini bottles are so pretty and fun! And perfect for holding flowers!

Closeup of wine label

The little piece of wood tied to the neck is actually a grape vine! Several of Zaccagnini’s varieties have these little vine pieces on them.

And they’re attached to every bottle by hand! I love how the vine on the rosé is painted pink – it’s a perfect decoration.

Include Interesting Filler

So the next day, I went out into the garden and grabbed some more pink roses. I also snipped some rosemary, chive blossoms, and oregano to give the arrangement some extra pizzaz!

Closeup of roses and herbs

I love to include herbs, especially when I take flowers to a dinner.

Socially Distanced Visiting

I took this one to a dear friend I haven’t seen in forever. I didn’t reach her on the phone, so I thought I’d just drop it on her porch for her to find later.

Herbs with pink roses in bottle

When I got there, she and her husband were there after all, working out in the yard! So as well as dropping off the flowers, I got to have a little socially distanced chat with them too. A lovely extra bonus.

Pink rose flower arrangement

So there’re my wine recommendation and flower-giving tip for today. I hope you get a chance to try a rosé or two, and then give someone some flowers!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing my Roses and Rosé – and Bottles!

This is such a good idea Barbara – who wouldn’t be delighted to receive such a lovely gift? I think I’ll do this for my sister whom I haven’t seen for months because of our social gathering restrictions – even though she lives less than 10 minutes away from me. Thanks for the inspiration and Happy Tuesday to you!!

I am dying over the color of the roses! What kind are they? So gorgeous and such a fun idea to take flowers around to friends and neighbors in bottles! I don’t drink alcohol but I have plenty of other cute bottles that I could use. Such a great idea! Thanks so much for stopping by and linking up to Centerpiece Wednesday and sharing your idea! https://karinskottage.com/2020/06/centerpiece-wednesday-linky-party.html

    Barbara,
I will need to try that Rosé~~not one of the many I have sampled so far. I just consumed Fleurs de Prairie, another rosé with a very pretty bottle. I have been debating whether to toss it, make a glass out of it, but now after reading your post, I will keep it for giveaway vases. I love that idea! Your roses are beautiful too. Mine are a little tired due to the heat. Your pictures continue to be stunning too.
Thanks for sharing. Now off to drink some rosé!
