There’s nothing like candlelight flickering on copper to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere! Add some other mixed metals, and you’ve got a perfect combination for a fall table!
Copper!
Copper is so warm and inviting! This table has gold, bronze, and silver along with the copper, and in the candlelight it really sparkles.
I had just gotten these gorgeous copper chargers and was dying to try them out.
Wine & Mushrooms
So we invited our neighbors over for dinner and headed out into a perfect fall afternoon in search of red wine and fresh mushrooms! We found the wine at one of our favorite wineries down south, Willakenzie Estates. Besides having great wines, the estate and tasting room are beautiful! If you ever get to the Willamette Valley, it’s definitely worth a stop.
Our favorite farm stand was out of mushrooms, so we ambled onward. We had a gorgeous drive, but came up empty handed for the mushrooms. We ended up getting them at the grocery store on our way home though. So while my husband made dinner, I set the table with my new chargers as the inspiration.
Setting the Table
I was going for a woodsy fall feel, so I put the copper directly on the dark table. These are beautiful chargers. They have a hand-hammered look, and are large enough to hold any of my dinner plates. I was smitten as soon as I saw them!
For some contrast, I put white plates on top of the chargers. I had two with a beautiful raised pattern. But since there would be four of us, I rounded out the table with two of our everyday white plates. It’s fun to have more than one style, and I know there are a lot of us who mix it up now and then!
Some light blush jacquard napkins carried the pink of the centerpiece gently out to the plates.
For glassware, I used my favorite cut crystal highball/water glasses. The first four of these were a gift from my father, and I filled in the rest of the set later. They’re so heavy and lovely, and really catch the candlelight. The wine glasses are Riedels – the perfect shape to get the best aromas out of our delicious wine.
Copper and Other Mixed Metals
I’m loving the mixed metals this fall, so I used my gold flatware, which really added to the rich look of the copper. This particular pattern is pretty old, but there are lots of gorgeous new gold flatware patterns out there now.
I also have some bronze-toned mercury glass votive candle holders, and some silver mercury glass pillar candle holders. Those joined the other metals on the table. I loved the four different colors of metal, and the warmth they created all together.
Flowers, As Always
I had been nursing along some cut flowers from several days ago – pink carnations and darker pink baby roses that I had sourced for this post. They were still lovely, so I put them in the center of the table.
The dark stoneware bowl vase was a great visual anchor on the table. The solid color and hefty weight grounded the setting against all the metal and sparkle.
We also had some beautiful autumn-colored leaves in our yard. I cut a few small branches and laid them out on either side of the centerpiece. They added to my woodsy fall concept, and the burnished red in the leaves really complemented the copper. Even if you live in a city like we do, there are so many places to find greenery, or even flowers. Parks, freeway right of ways, vacant lots – if you’re on the lookout when you’re out and around, you can often find quite a few things to bring home for decorating.
Our neighbors knocked on our door as the sun was going down. We lighted the candles, and this table with all its beautiful metals glowed warm and sparkling all evening!
I hope you get a chance to try some copper and candlelight on your table too!

Willamette Valley has so many lovely wineries and beautiful backcountry roads to explore. We lived in West Linn for 23 years before moving to another fabulous wine region here in Walla Walla.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Arleen – Wow you’ve lived in some good wine regions alright! West Linn is so pretty – my mom lived in Lake O, so I used to drive through it all the time! Hope you’re having a lovely day, and Happy Weekend!

Wouldn’t it be fun if we lived closer (and it wasn’t a virus?) We could set tables for each other and have tea any time we wanted! And maybe we could do a 4-hand version of Tea for Two! 🙂
Happy Thursday Michele – take care over there!

Such an elegant copper tablescape, Barbara… I’m loving copper these days. I just saw a copper ice bucket at Goodwill for $10… I’m thinkin’ I should have picked it up!
Barbara Leone says
Oh don’t you hate when that happens!? I always tell myself to buy things the first time I see them, but I still think I’ll get it later or wait till it goes on sale, or something! 🙂
