How to Design a Valentine Tablescape That Feels Luxurious
Hello and welcome to our luxurious Valentine Tablescape! I have a lovely table for you today – and it’s even lovelier because it’s part of a Valentine Tablescape blog hop! The hop is once again hosted by the talented, creative, organized, and patient Rita from Panoply – thank you so much, Rita!

Flowers Make a Valentine Tablescape Luxurious
In my opinion, there are several things that make a Valentine Tablescape – or any tablescape – luxurious. And the first, as I’m sure you know if you’ve been around for a bit, is flowers!

You can design a tablescape around just about anything – dishes, linens, the room it’s in – but almost all my tables start with the flowers. Any table becomes luxurious just by the addition of some blooms, fresh, dried, or faux.
The flowers on this Valentine tablescape are a beautiful soft mix of colors. From the deep almost maroon, through the bright and soft pinks, to the beautiful creamy whites, these roses and carnations are lovely! I don’t often use baby’s breath, but these were extra fresh and plump. And since I was going for romance, the airy lacy look worked well.
Also, the little copper vases are almost pink!
A Textured Tablecloth for Cozy Luxury

Luxury comes in all kinds of styles. I think I’d call this one freshly cozy! The coziness comes from this wonderfully textured tablecloth. (As I’m sure you can guess, it’s really a coverlet, put to use on our Valentine tablescape.) But since it’s usually a little chilly still on Valentine’s Day here in the Pacific Northwest, a little cozy is great!
We’re also usually dying for spring about the middle of February, so the brightness of the table goes a long way.
Soft Colors on the Valentine Tablescape
Another thing that helps create luxury I think, is a soft color palette. And one that doesn’t have too much contrast. The napkins are a very soft blush pink.

And while they so have some pattern in the weave that gives a bit of interest close up, they blend very nicely with the tablecoth.
And from a distance, you only get the impression of creamy blush. Nothing jumps out to grab you – it’s all just soft and romantic.

Luxurious Romantic Candles
The next luxury bit of our Valentine tablescape is the candles. I love candles on the table! We use them almost every night. (When we’re not on the couch upstairs watching our favorite British detectives with our plates on our laps … ! But we’re talking about luxury, here!)
These candle holders are a beautiful rose gold that I got for my 60th birthday party. You can read all about that in this post: How to Throw a Really Beautiful Milestone Birthday Party

They’re very slender and tall enough to keep the candles above the flowers, which is nice. The bases are very heavy and they never tip. They also have little grabbers inside the actual holder, so the candles wobble or lean as little as possible.
I like the way they work with the baby’s breath to keep the table airy and lacy. Nothing too heavy here at all.
The Valentine Place Setting
The place setting itself continues the white and pink with rose gold chargers, which I got for that same birthday party. These are cousins to the gold ones that I use all the time, and they’re just as lightweight, sturdy, and easy to clean. Also extremely inexpensive! I love these!

I also love this copper/rose gold flatware* that I go on and on about every time I use it. Suffice it to say that it’s as fun as it is unique, satisfying to use and hold, and my guests always comment on it!
The plates are a vintage set of Haviland that I got from a friend of my dear SIL. A VERY generous gift that I’m still grateful for after all these years!

Cut crystal glassware adds to the romance and luxury as well. Nothing like a little sparkle on a Valentine tablescape!

Valentine Place Cards for a Galentine’s Valentine Tablescape
But the thing that makes this tablescape a Valentine Tablescape, is the Valentine place cards! My guests always love to have place cards. It feels like a special invitation – that you’ve set this table just for them!
And it’s so easy to set the tone of a table with a place card that announces your theme. I set this table for a Galentine’s Day party, and each of my friends has a little heart with her name on it!
The paper is almost exactly the same blush color as the linens, and stands in a little rose gold holder.
Place cards don’t have to be fancy to be fun and pretty. These are just cut by hand, and I didn’t do any fancy printing or graphics – just wrote the names on. But they do invoke the spirit I was trying to create, so luxurious mission accomplished!

You can use the exact same table for a couples Valentine tablescape.

In fact, I’m so behind the idea that place cards can change your table, that I made several different versions to show you how you can switch this table from a Valentine tablescape, to lots of other dinner party tablescape occasions! For all of these, I kept the color of the place cards the same so it wouldn’t change the vibe.
An Easter Tablescape
Instead of the heart, I made a little bunny! (In fact, it’s a little too little – when I do it again, I’ll make them a bit bigger.)

But now it’s an Easter tablescape instead of Valentine.

You could add some pretty pink and white eggs to the tabletop if you wanted, too.
A Mother’s Day Tablescape
A simple place card change makes this a Mother’s Day Tablescape! These are a little bigger to draw your attention to Mom’s special day.

They look great on the table too – more of an actual architectural element. They make everyone feel special, while still celebrating the guest of honor.

A Wedding or Bridal Shower Tablescape
These are pretty bridal bouquet place cards to turn this table design into a bridal shower tablescape!

LIke the Mother’s Day tablescape, these celebrate the bride and each guest!

A Baby Shower Tablescape
This would be a perfect tablescape for a baby shower too! I just found a little rocking horse graphic, printed it onto the paper, and wrote the guests’ names on them. Easy! And cute.

It would also be easy to add some decor to your theme with this table. For instance, you could cut out the rocking horses and string them together for a little garland over the window or the dessert table, etc. Or you could string them vertically and hang them over the table. There are all kinds of things you could do with just about any theme!
Turn a Valentine Tablescape into a Birthday Tablescape
And last but not least, my favorite thing to celebrate – birthdays! I made some balloon place cards for this one.

I also hung some curly ribbon from the overhead light, and put a present on the plate!

Very celebratory, no?

Barbara, this is such a beautiful and elegant approach to Valentine’s styling — I love how you created a luxurious feel through thoughtful layering rather than excess. The blush and rose-gold palette feels romantic yet sophisticated, and I especially appreciate how you shared the design principles behind the look so readers can recreate it themselves. It’s refined, inviting, and wonderfully timeless. So happy to be hopping along with you!
Thank you for your sweet comments Jennifer! That’s the look I was going for – I’m glad it worked for you! I’m happy to be hopping with you too – I’m totally inspired by your Trattoria Table! Hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day, and that we get to hop together again next time!
Always Gorgeous.
Thank you so much Rebecca! I’m so happy you stopped by. ❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day!
Barbara, what a wonderfully soft, romantic, and of course, luxurious table! The flowers are so beautiful and steal the show, but the white coverlet table covering is a gorgeous backdrop for all the pretty copper and rose gold metallics and those wonderful Haviland plates. The softly glowing candles are the icing on the cake. It’s very cool how you just changed out the place cards and the rest of the table is set for many other occasions. Thanks for sharing all your creativity and I hope you are staying warm and cozy down there. Happy Valentine’s Day, my friend!
Hey Kim! I’m so glad you like it – soft romance was my main idea! Aren’t these hops fun? I just love seeing everyone’s different takes on the theme. I hope you’re enjoying your “unusual” weather! It’s always entertaining, right?! But no matter what it’s doing outside, we get a day to celebrate with hearts! Take care my friend! Always lovely to share a hop with you! Happy Valentines!
This is gorgeous, Barbara. As you know, I love alternative looks to the expected Valentine, and the soft colors are also on my radar during winter months after the Christmas color bonanza is over. The coverlet is one of the most inviting bases for a winter tablescape with its quilted appearance. The rose golds and golds of the place card holders, flatware and chargers add just enough glam to the tablescape. The flowers are so pretty, and the interchangeable place cards make for perfect versatility for each of the occasions you mention. Thanks so much for sharing all these ideas and joining the hop!
Oh thank you Rita! It is so fun to do something a bit different, and yes I totally agree about calmer colors in the late winter. I love the term Color Bonanza! 🤣 Thanks so much for hosting – these are always so much fun and such a great inspiration. I hope you know how much we all appreciate your work and dedication. Thanks for making this an extra wonderful Valentine’s Day!
Such a lovely table for Valentine’s Day or any other occasion Barbara! I love using coverlets or throws as a tablecloth and your matelassé coverlet provides a beautiful textured foundation for your table. Gorgeous flowers…I love the mix of pinks with your rose gold and copper. As always, it’s a treat to hop with you. Wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day. ♥
Hi Mary – I’m so happy you like it. I might have gotten a bit of inspiration from your various cozy winter and heart tables! 😊 Love hopping with you too, and hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day!
Your table is so soft and delicate and perfect for all occasions, like you demonstrate. There is something to be said about a textured white tablecloth. It completely takes it over the top. And your addition to the soft pastel color of pink, it is so serene and soothing. The flowers are perfect for each kind of occasion. The crystal brings the sparkle along with the candles. So pretty.
Thanks so much Marsha! Valentine’s is the perfect time for lots of pink and white! So glad you like the crystal and candles too – two of my favorite things on a table. Take care, and Happy Valentines to you and yours!
Barbara, your table is so pretty and romantic with the pink and white. The flowers are gorgeous. Love the copper and rose gold together. They pair so well. The textured coverlet is beautiful on your table. One can never have too much candlelight, especially for a romantic table. Love how you showed different ways to celebrate different events. Place cards are always an elegant touch personalizing each place setting. Always a pleasure joining you at the table. Happy Valentine’s Day.❤️
Linda! I kept thinking of you as I was putting this post together – this would be a perfect one for your magic mouse-following sparkles! You’re exactly right about the candlelight, never too much! (Well, that’s not strictly true, but you know what I mean!) It’s always so much fun to hop with you! Thanks for popping over, and Happy Valentine’ Day!
Barbara, your table is lovely with its soft pastel colors! The coverlet is a pretty foundation for your romantic table with rose gold candles and flatware. The flowers are perfect, I love carnations and their spicy fragrance. What a great idea of showing how the same table can be used for many celebrations by simply changing place cards. It is always a pleasure to take a seat at one of your beautiful tables. Wishing you a wonderful Valentine’s Day❤️
Hi Pam! Yes, I do love switching out just a couple things and making the table a little different. I love carnations too, especially the big fragrant ones like these. Hope your Valentine’s Day is wonderful – see you out there!
The beautiful flowers are definitely the stars of the tablescape. The soft pastels colors are a perfect setting for a romantic Valentine’s Day celebration. Using a white quilted spread as your tablecloth is a really nice choice. I love the texture and also the volume it adds to the table. The intricate quilting gives interest without being overwhelming. Wishing you a lovely Valentine’s Day.
Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Hi Lynne! Yes, texture – I can’t get enough! One day I’m going to layer as many white things as I can on the table and see what I get! If it’s not TOTALLY overwhelming, I’ll do a post! 😊 Thanks so much for stopping over, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Barbara, this is lovely, softly whispering romance in a range of pastels. The flowers of course are beautiful and take their place as the center of attention. The rose gold touches are the perfect choices to support the flowers and feel more romantic than yellow gold would. I can imagine this will be a wonderful evening spent with friends or partners. Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
Aww thanks Sandra – romance was what I was going for! I’ve always thought rose gold fit the romance bill. Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day – it’s so fun to hop with you!
Barb your table is lovely with the colors of copper and gold. As I said in my post, you inspire so many of us, me in particular. The flowers are beautiful and I know you usually use flowers in your tablescapes. Thanks for more tips…Happy Valentines Day, stay warm and keep the lights on❤️🥰❤️
Kari you are so sweet!! It’s so great that we can inspire each other – I can’t tell you how fortunate I am to have an online mentor and friend like you! Thanks for everything, and Happy Valentines to you and the Captain!
I love the soft colors on your table, especially the copper and rose gold. Your flowers are absolutely stunning! I think what makes this table so pretty is the fact that you have the white tablecloth and plates that help the rest stand out. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Thanks so much Ricki Jill! I’ll probaby never get tired of gold and white with some pink thrown in. Valentines Day is the perfect time to get away with it one more time! Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day too!
What a pretty and inviting table! The flowers are lovely and i would enjoy sitting here! I have similar flatware (mine is black) and it is unique (the jury is still out on whether I like it or not!). Have a wonderful Valentine Day!
Haha Patti – I know – sometimes you have to use a thing like flatware for a while and see it in lots of different contexts before you decide if it gets a permanent place in the collection! I’ve found that I don’t use my black flatware very much, but when I do, nothing else will work! Thanks so much for stopping over – I love sharing the hop with you. Happy Valentines!
So pretty and elegant! I love the texture in the quilted throw, it makes for a beautiful table cover. The copper and the rose gold look wonderful with the pinks in the centerpieces. You have really shown us just how versatile this table can be! So many wonderful Ideas!! I hope you are staying warm and safe. Have a lovely Valentine’s Day❤️
Isn’t it fun how you can have one table do multiple duty? I’m so glad you like it Ann – I’m so happy to join you all in the hop. Hope you’re staying warm and safe too. Our weather isn’t nearly as interesting as yours! Take care and Happy Valentine’s Day!
This table is so pretty and romantic, and you are right, it would be perfect for a wedding shower or baby shower in addition to Valentine’s Day. It just glows in that candlelight. I really like the charger plates that you used. That color is wonderful.
Thanks Pattie! I do love that pinky gold, and it’s a lot more versastile than it would seem – I’ve been happily surprised with the ways I’ve been able to use them. So many different options! Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day – love sharing the hop with you!
Barbara, this is lovely! The white cozy coverlet is the perfect base. I, too, love to use quilts and throws on my tables. Perfect for layering! The roses are stunning and the perfect romantic centerpiece. The soft pinks and the copper details are very romantic. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Thanks so much Sarah! I’ve seen some of your beautiful quilt tables – they’re so fun to work with, aren’t they? Always so nice to hop with you. Hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day too!
