A Gold Tablescape Sparkles with Beautiful Candlelight

Welcome to our sparkling gold tablescape! This just felt magical to me once the candles were all lit, reflecting off the goblets, the windows, and even the other candle holders. The golden glow of our dinner party was really beautiful – nobody even noticed there weren’t any flowers!

How the Gold Tablescape Came to Be

I almost always – well, I think up to now I have always – used flowers on my tablescapes. Most of the time, they’re the actual influence or the starting point for the whole setting. But this time, I didn’t have a single flower in the house. (I know – what’s with THAT?!) And there wasn’t even anything blooming in the yard.

As sometimes happens, I hadn’t left myself much time between getting home and the guests arriving. Which of course, meant I didn’t have much time to set the table! So running out to grab some flowers from the store wasn’t an option.

And then I thought of candles! I happened to have a lot on hand because my favorite candles in the world are only available at Trader Joe’s during the holidays, and I had just stocked up! I figured candles could take the place of flowers for this night.

Golden Everything

Once I decided on using all the gold candle holders I could lay my hands on, I thought I’d just continue the theme! I pulled out as many gold pieces as I could find, and put them on the table. Chargers, flatware, napkin rings – even golden water goblets.

It was the goldest gold tablescape I’ve ever set. And the reflections were amazing!

Some Neutral Colors in the Gold Tablescape

I didn’t have any gold napkins, plus I didn’t want to completely overdo it, so I added these flax colored linen napkins. I love to hang them over the edge of the table for some extra softness and drape. But because they were neutral, they didn’t detract from the overall gold feeling.

The Gold Tablescape Place Setting

Let’s talk about the place setting itself. This is all my practically-everyday stuff. It’s all handy and available. (Although the gold goblets haven’t been used for a while and I had to stand on my tippy toes to get them off the top shelf way at the back!)

The chargers have been wonderful for a long long time. They’re really inexpensive and completely durable. I’ve used them probably literally dozens of times over the years, and have only had to replace a few when they’ve cracked. They wash up easily and look great, and because they’re a simple design, they go with anything!

The plates are our every day white dishes. Practically indestructible, and always pretty. Food always looks so good on white plates too!

The flatware is one of my favorite sets – I’ve gone off about its fun shape and heavy weight lots of times, but it really is great. As I always say, everybody comments on them almost every time!

Golden Goblets and Beautiful Glassware

These golden goblets have always fascinated me. They were my mom’s – I don’t remember where she got them, probably on one of her international trips. She was always coming home with something lovely and fun.

Eventually they came to me, and I’m still fascinated. They are so gorgeous and reflect so beautifully on the table! I love using them. These are vintage and like I say, probably came from another country, but I’ve linked some similar ones in the Boutique below.

The wine glasses are the balloon shaped pinot noir variety from Riedel. We do have a couple wine glasses by other manufacturers, but we don’t use them anywhere near as often as these. They do the best job of bringing out the taste and bouquet of the wines. Plus, they look beautiful on any tablescape!

Give the Gold Tablescape a Try!

What do you think of a gold tablescape? I’ve set others with gold in them (like Gold and white table setting – a beautiful party sneak peek and Fall Gold Tablescape – a Beautiful Luncheon for Fabulous Friends ) but this is the first one that’s this gold!

Have you ever set a tablescape that was mostly gold? Let us know in the Comments, and thanks for sharing this one with me!

  1. Barb I LOVE this gold table….so pretty. I am going to get all my gold stuff out and set a table for the Captain and Me for our anniversary. I especially love the goblets and will buy some. I guess you and I are kinda thinking alike this week as my post is about Yellow (gold?) cardinals. Have you ever seen anything like them? I also featured the yellow-headed blackbird which is like the red-winged blackbird. As I said I went along the same lines as I love yellow and I really love gold. Thanks for the inspiration my friend. Blessings and again…I LOVE your gold table.

    1. Oh so fun – Happy Anniversary! That’s a perfect occasion for a gold table! I can’t wait to read about your birds – it’s a perfect week for gold or yellow! 🤗 Take care down there!

  2. Barbara, your goldest gold table is just lovely! All the candles add such a wonderful light and ambience and make the gold shimmer. Plus, candlelight is always so flattering and I’m guessing that your guests didn’t even notice that there weren’t any flowers. Those gold goblets from your mom are magnificent and they look really solid and substantial. Isn’t is great when you can pull together a beautiful table on short notice – your everyday dishes are so pretty. I’m sure everyone had a wonderful evening. Take care down there, my friend.

    1. Thanks so much Kim! I do love gold! I was actually a little surprised at all the gold pieces I have, it’s so fun to scour the house and come up with something pretty. Thanks so much for stopping over – hope you’re staying warm up there!

  3. Lovely as always Barbara. The gold immediately makes the table special. I’m loving the goblets. XO- MaryJo

  4. Barbara, so beautiful. You can never go wrong with lots of candles. Need more info about Trader Joe’s candles!

    1. Aw thanks Mary! The TJ’s candles are only available during the holidays, and only at some stores! They come in packs of 8 and are dripless AND self-extinguishing, which is the thing I love about them most. They last just right for a very long evening – 4 or 5 hours. The only colors I’ve ever seen are white and cream, which of course, suits me just fine. https://www.traderjoes.com/home/products/pdp/eight-candles-061298 Let me know if you can still find any, I’d love to hear what you think of them!
