Welcome to a cozy Christmas tablescape and some simple ideas to make it beautiful! Today’s post is part of the Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by Rita from Panoply, our tireless encourager and supporter of wonderful tablescape inspiration for every season!

Check out the links at the end of this post for all kinds of Christmas tables!

A cozy Christmas tablescape in front of a fire.

My offering is this cozy Christmas tablescape up in our primary suite. I don’t show this part of our house very often, but it’s where we spend a whole lot of time. Especially in the evenings, sitting by the fire, usually watching our favorite British mysteries!

So let’s take a look at the table, and the ideas that make it cozy.

Linens for Our Cozy Christmas Tablescape

The first, is the tablecloth. The deep colors and festive check make it seriously cozy! I got it last summer, intending to use it for a Father’s Day tablescape, but ended up going a different direction instead. So this is its first outing, and I think it’s perfect for a casual and cozy Christmas tablescape.

This is another instance (Like here and here) of using a rectangular tablecloth on a round table. Especially with just two places, the drape is extra romantic, which is idea #2 to increase the coziness factor!

Plain red napins work with it, without being too matchy. (Which, however, you know I love! Never too matchy for me! But it’s nice to be able to mix as well as match from time to time!)

Napkin Rings Too!

And while we’re talking napkins, the gold rings are made out of spoon handles! I love these so much. We have an artisan here in Portland who makes them and sells them at the Saturday Market, but I haven’t seen any gold ones there, or on his site, for quite a while.

The ones from an Etsy artisan that I’ve linked below look gold, but I would message them to make positive sure. Sometimes the light in photos can make silver look gold, and you get whatever pattern they have on hand. So if you want gold, you need to specify and double check!

If you want gold for truly positive sure, I’ve linked some non-spoon, but definitely beautiful and gold ones below too!

Beautiful Gold

Idea #3 is to use gold. There’s nothing like its warmth and shimmer to make your tablescape cozy, especially at Christmas time.

Here we have the charger plates, the rims of the china, and the flatware, all gold.

The candle holders and the rims of the wine glasses are gold too, so the warmth carries through the entire table.

Speaking of glassware, these wine goblets are the ones I found at Goodwill several years ago, and turned out to be very lovely Mikasa! They’re not made anymore, but I’ve linked them here and below from Replacements.com.

The water galsses are, as usual, my very favorite ones that I use for literally almost every table I ever set!

The Cozy Christmas Tablescape Centerpiece

The centerpiece is idea #4 for a cozy Christmas tablescape. Just a little something evergreen with some red berries will brighten up your table and make things extra cozy. I couldn’t find this exact style, but there are all kinds of beautiful picks out there.

Or you could just grab some from outside if you have something handy. Since this is a table for two, you don’t need too much.

Of course, you can always expand our cozy Christmas tablescape to work for any occasion when you want a little touch of the holidays. A birthday or anniversary celebration, a regular winter dinner party, or even your main Christmas dinner would all be perfect times for this elegant – yet cozy and casual – red and gold tablescape.

A Seasonal Mantel

Cozy idea #5 is to decorate the room you’re in a little bit! Here, all I did was put a pretty mirror, a few evergreen boughs, and some red berries on the mantel. The greenery gives the room such a cozy and finished vibe. And there’s nothing that says Christmas to me more than evergreens on the mantel!

I put a couple candles up too, which add to the glow. (The one on the left there, didn’t want to stay lit, but I replaced it before dinner!)

  4. Oh wow Barbara – a fireplace in your primary suite – how cool, or rather, cozy is that! Love it that you can set a table for two in front of the fireplace, and this one looks very cozy indeed. The red and black checked tablecloth with the gold-rimmed china is just so inviting. The gold accents are perfect and the sparkle from the stemware is so special. I’ve always admired those gold spoon napkin rings. The greenery and berries on the centerpiece and the mantel offer a wonderful Christmas feel. I hope you enjoyed a very cozy dinner there! 1. Hi! Yes, it was that huge room on the top floor that made me fall in love with our house, and the firepace was the icing on the cake! I’m afraid I was so busy Christmasing that I didn’t respond to your sweet comment in a timely way, but I hope you had a lovely season. I heard you had some Christmas snow. I hope you didn’t have to go anywhere! Take care up there my friend, and Happy January now!

  5. Well, you had me at sitting by the fire! The warmth, the sight, the sound of a fire next to where you’re dining can’t be beat. Add to that seclusion and the closeness of a table for two and I don’t know how you could define cozy any better. The metallic glow of the gold pieces takes it over the top of the scale! Enjoy your evenings here throughout the season! Happy Holidays

    1. Thanks so much Sandra – we do love it next to the fire! I hope your holidays were lovely! Ours were a blur, but so much fun. Here’s to winter – I’m already looking forward to our next hop! Take care till then!

  6. Like minds, Barbara. I love seeing your pretty table set by a cozy fire. Today is cold and rainy here in Austin, which makes the perfect opportunity to sit by the fire. Your red details are lovely. Merry, Merry!

    1. Yes! A fire is so nice and cozy! We were doing pretty well weather-wise until a few days ago, and now we’re back to our standard old and rain, so the fireplace feels even cozier than before. I hope you had a lovely holiday and are enjoying the winter too! It’s always lovely to hop with you!

  7. Barbara, there’s nothing cozier than fireside dining! What a wonderful spot to cozy up and enjoy your favorite TV show or intimate table for two. 8. I just warmed up. Barbara, as I am going through each bloggers link to make my comments, we are experiencing such bitterly cold weather and the temperatures continue to fall. I got to your lovely cozy table and I immediately felt warmer and comforted. Your warm red and black checkered table next to your roaring fireplace with flickering candles and crystal stemware ready for flavorful wine that will also warm the soul. Can you tell I am freezing even being in the house? Thank you for a cozy retreat from our winter snow into your warm and invited tablescape surroundings. Merry Christmas.

    1. Oh Marsha, I’m glad I could contribute to the warm vibes – I feel your pain! I live in moderate Oregon now, but I was many years in Minnesota, so I know the cold that keeps you freezing even in the house! I hope your Christmas was warm in spirit, and thanks for your sweet comments!

  9. I would’ve never thought to put the gold with the dark red and black plaid, but it totally works! I really like the touches of gold. It’s perfect by the fireplace as the fire and the candlelight reflects on it and makes it glow. That makes your setting so cozy for a cold winter’s night. Merry Christmas!

    1. Hi Ricki – Cozy was the name of the game with this one, and even though our December was really pretty mild and clear for the time of year, we’re getting back to our usual cold and rainy now, so the table by the fire is looking more and more appealing. I hope you had a lovely holiday, and I can’t wait to hop with you again next time!

  10. So cozy and special, Barbara.

And I love you donate a portion of any commish you make to H for H! That’s so good of you. ♥

    1. Hi there my friend! I love to be able to donate. I’d love to actually build one of the houses someday too, but not sure how long I’d hold up swinging a hammer these days! Forgive my tardiness in getting back to you – the holidays were a fun blur! I hope you and your family had a wonderful season too! Take care and see you out there!

  11. Barbara, I love a table set for two! It is romantic and cozy set by the fireplace. I often use a square tablecloth on a round table, I love the way it drops into four points. The gold accents are perfect for the holiday season. The napkin rings are unique and add another gold element. Your stemware is beautiful! It is always a pleasure to join you at the table. Wishing you a joy-filled Christmas season!

    1. Happy After The Holidays, Pam! I’m sorry I’m so late responding to your sweet comment. I love square tablecloths too – so many fun ways to use them. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season!

  12. I love your cozy Christmas tablescape Barbara! It reminds me of a quaint bistro the Mister and I used to go for romantic dinners! Happy holidays!

    1. Hi Michelle! I apologize for taking so long to get back to you – so sweet of you to stop by! That’s funny the table makes you think of a bistro – that’s what my husband and I thought too! Hope you’re doing well over there and had a wonderful holiday!

  13. Barbara, a table for two by the fire is so cozy and yet romantic. The plate stack is lovely topped with white plates with rims of gold. They tie in beautifully with your good flatware and napkin ring. The Mikasa wine goblets are beautiful as are your gorgeous water glasses. Adding evergreens 🌲 helps create the festive and cozy feel. A lovely table to embrace the holidays. Always a pleasure joining you at the table. Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas.🎄

    1. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas too, Linda! I got a little behind with my responses, but now that the festivities are done, I’m looking forward to our next hop – it’s always a pleasure to see your beautiful tables. Have fun out there, and thanks for stopping over!

  14. Barbara, what a beautiful spot to enjoy a meal by the warmth of the fireplace. Your Christmas table for two is so pretty and elegant with your lovely china, crystal, flatware, and Christmas greenery. The red of the tablecloth adds a festive touch to the setting as well as how beautifully you have decorated your mantel. Merry Christmas, sweet friend!

    1. Thanks so much Shannon – we do love it in front of the fire! I hope you had a very merry Christmas in your beautiful home. Looking forward to a lovely winter, and hoping for snow!

  15. Barb how cozy is your table? I love it. The Captain and I like to do that…sit at a table for two in front of the fireplace and yes, we have a fireplace in Florida…LOL! We often watch basketball and football games curled up on the sofa with a fire in the fireplace and drinking hot chocolate. I like the red/black check tablecloth and gold accents. The mirror, evergreens and berries are a perfect backdrop for your dinner for two. I especially love your glassware which twinkle in the candlelight on the table. Always fun to see your design style whether outside or inside. Merry Christmas and continued Blessings.

    1. Oh Kari – I love that vision of curling up on the couch with hot chocolate and something fun to watch! I’m glad you have a fireplace – it doesn’t matter what’s going on outside if you’re cozy inside. I’m so glad you like the table, and I hope your holidays were wonderful. Have fun in sunny FL, my friend!

  16. Dinner by the fire is always so charming at this time of the year, and your table is just perfect for enjoying such a thing. I’ll bet the flames from the fire reflect off of that crystal stemware beautifully.

  17. Barbara, what could be cozier than a festive table near a crackling fire? I would love to join you at this simply elegant table! Wishing you a joyful Christmas season, Cecilia-My Thrift Store Addiction

  18. Love this table setting Barbara. It’s so cozy and perfect by a fire. The napkin rings are fabulous. Happy December friend. XO- MaryJo

  19. I definitely have “suite envy”, Barb. What a lovely way to celebrate a cozy Christmas evening. The fireside table is wonderful and keeping the table setting simple and classic works so well. The wine glasses are my favorite element but love the easy centerpiece as well. Wishing you and your family a joyous Christmas season.

    1. I’m so glad you like the table Lynne! And the “suite!” It’s realy just one big room, but we spend a lot of time up there – it was one of the things I liked best about our house when we bought it all those years ago. And we’ve certainly used it! Hope you had a lovely Christmas season my friend!

  20. What a warm and cozy setting filled with glitz, sparkle and shine!! Such a sweet and romantic table! Wishing you a happy and joyful season.
