An Outdoor Fall Tablescape of Beautiful Copper and Linen

Hi and welcome to the last table in our Copper and Linen trilogy – the third outdoor fall tablescape. This one of course has copper and linen, and also hydrangeas that were still going strong in the garden. It always amazes me how those hydrangeas last so long and go through so many colors along the way!

These went perfectly with the copper. And after the larger flower centerpieces of the other tables, the Copper and Pink one, and the Copper and Black one, I liked this smaller, simpler flower arrangement here.

The Outdoor Fall Tablescape Setting

If this is your first Copper and Linen trilogy post, the idea was that I set three tables with exactly the same table linens, and the same copper chargers and flatware. Our fall days were so consistently lovely there for a while, and all we wanted to do was be outside as much as possible. So the outdoor fall tablescapes just popped into my mind.

We have a cozy four person round table in our backyard – the easiest place to create a tablescape. (I add the other two chairs after I take the pictures, just so I can show you the lovely drape of the tablecloth. When my guests sit down, I sweep the cloth to the side and/or tuck it under the bars of the table.)

The Linens

I can’t say enough wonderful things about these linens! They are so beautiful and so easy care. They go right in the washer and dryer, and look lovely in a formal or casual setting. Here’s another closeup of the tablecloth draped over the round table.

The napkins are beautiful too, and I like to show as much of their surface area as possible. Here I just snugged them beside the salad plate and let them drape over the table like the tablecloth.

The Outdoor Fall Tablescape Place Setting

The place setting itself is made up of pieces I’ve owned for a long time. I couldn’t resist these copper chargers several years ago. I love the hammered edged. They really reflect the light and sparkle both outdoors and in.

I got the embossed white dinner plates at Goodwill years ago. You can’t tell it too well in these pictures, but they’re oval shaped instead of round. That’s kind of different and fun at the place setting. The salad plates are part of a lovely set that was a gift from my very kind and thoughtful cousins.

I bought the darling little copper cocottes a few years ago too. They are the cutest things, and make serving soup or an individual casserole, etc, really different and fun. All my guests love these!

Just one caution – they get hot! So if they’re coming right out of the oven or broiler, be sure to protect your hands when you serve, and let your guests know to be careful.

I haven’t been able to find this exact kind for quite a while. Even when they were avilable, they used to sell out all the time. But I’ve found some that are very similar, and still look as cute. I’ve linked them below in the Boutique Recommendations.

Flatware & Glassware

The copper flatware is one of the constants in the table trilogy. If you’ve been following for a while, I know you’ll roll your eyes if I go off about this flatware again, but it’s really so great! The shape is fun, and they’re a good solid weight. They go in the dishwasher, AND they’re inexpensive. You gotta love all that! My guests always love them too!

The knives and spoons are really cool shapes. And those knives are really sharp. Watch your fingers – they look small, but they do a big job!

The glasses are some that I got at an amazing vintage store near me. If you’re in the Portland area, don’t miss Monticello Antiques. For one thing, it’s huge! I could – and have – spent hours in there. And for another thing, they always have great pieces.

Outdoor Fall Tablescape Entertainment

I wanted to share a fun thing that happened while I was outside setting this tablescape. I was going along, minding my own business, when I heard this really fast tapping – like a woodpecker. We don’t usually get woodpeckers around our place, but I kept hearing it, so I looked around. And there, way up in a tree, was a bird, and he was definitely pecking!

You can see him kind of blending in there on the right side of the left-most vertical branch. He’s between that branch and the one that comes beside it on the right, then crosses over. I didn’t seem to bother him at all, and he kept on pecking like his life depended on it! Which maybe it did!

I haven’t checked the bird book yet, but if you know what he is, let me know. He doesn’t look like Woody Woodpecker – his back was black or really dark blue. I’m curious if he’s native or just passing through. In either case, I didn’t invite him to the table, and he didn’t look interested anyway!

A Very Versatile Tablescape

I just set this table for a cozy al fresco dinner party in the backyard, but it would be so perfect for lots of outdoor entertaining occasions. Wouldn’t it work well for a Thanksgiving tablescape, for instance? Or Halloween? Or a fall birthday or anniversary?

And it wouldn’t even have to be fall. With some spring or summer flowers, it would make an excellent tablescape for Easter or even Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Especially if your guest of honor loves copper!

If you changed out the flowers for holly, ivy, and some white roses, say, it’s even elegant enough for a Christmas or New Years tablescape!

You get the gist – you could use a copper and linen tablescape for just about anything. Let your imagination go wild!

The End of the Trilogy

Thanks for sharing all these copper and linen tablescapes with me! I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did, and that you got some inspiration for an outdoor fall tablescape of your own. Or an indoor winter one – this can definitely be in or out or any season.

  1. Barb I love this table with all the copper. (the little coquettes are adorable) Using the hydrangeas brings it all together, I would love to sit with you as the leaves fall (providing the weather co-operates) and enjoy a sharing of stories. Have a great and wonderful week-end. And thanks for stopping by Me and My Captain.

    1. Thanks so much Kari! I’m going crazy with the copper this year, but it’s so much fun! I would love to have a cozy chat too – wouldn’t that be fun? Maybe some day we’ll get to meet up in person. Hope you have a great week too. Take care and see you out there!

  2. I have so enjoyed your Copper and Linen Trilogy of same but also different. How fun and very pretty. I guess you are now planning your Thanksgiving or you most likely already know what you are doing and any of those tablescapes would work. Your copper cocottes are a favorite of mine. Thank you Barbara for sharing.

    1. I’m so glad you like them Janice! And yes, my Thanksgiving and Fall Party plans are in the works – the colors are different, but still copper! I can’t wait to see what you think! Have fun up there!

  3. Barbara, it is so cool that you set three different tables using the same linens, chargers, and flatware. It’s amazing what a difference a few small changes can make to the overall table. The hydrangeas are beautiful with all their pretty colors and how wonderful to still have flowers at this time of year! The salad plates are perfect with the copper and those coquettes are just darling – I’m so glad to hear they sell out so quickly and that way I won’t be tempted. A lovely finale to your trilogy, my friend, and take care down there (did I hear something about an earthquake?).

    1. Thanks Kim – these tables sure are fun to do! I don’t know that we had an earthquake big enough to feel. I just checked the earthquake website, and it looks like our area has only had micro-quakes in the last 30 days, and none of them were right in Portland. Thank goodness! They say we’re due for the big one sometime soon, but I’m crossing my fingers it’s not really soon! Thanks so much for stopping over. Hope your fall is going great!
