Guess what happened to me?!

Ok, so you know how sometimes impossible things just happen!? So I’m driving to the gym at 5:30 in the morning the other day. I take only my phone, ear buds, keys, credit card, and license. I put the phone in the special little cubby in my dashboard for it to charge, and I lay my cards on top of it. It’s a small little cubby – not much deeper than the phone.

Anyway, the roads are almost completely empty – except for this guy in front of me – who just stops! Smack in the middle of the road for no reason at all!

As I slam on my brakes and swerve into the empty lane beside me, I notice out of the corner of my eye, my cards sliding right off my phone. I think to myself that I’ll have to remember to pick them up when I get to the gym because obviously I was too busy at the moment.

So I get to the gym, and the cards aren’t in the cubby. I look on the floor, but they’re not there. Hmmm. Almost impossible for them to have slid the other way, but I look on my side. No. I looked EVERYWHERE!! Between the seats, under the floor mat, in the map holder, but no! They had vanished! I know – impossible, right?!

After my workout, I did a further evaluation. At the very back of the cubby was a slot. A tiny tiny slot above a fin that stuck out into the space just above where my phone was. I’m not kidding – it must have been a cosmic convergence of just the exact right conditions to make those cards slide off my phone, jump the fin, and go through the slot!! Together! But now I had to get them out!! Was I going to have to call the dealer to remove my entire dash?!

But my colleage and I came up with a plan, using office supplies! You know those plastic 3-ring binder magazine holders? They’re stiff, yet flexible. And you know how sticky the back of a piece of velcro is – put those two together, and you’ve got a credit card remover!

When I got home, I shined a flashlight into the cubby, stuck my homemade remover into the slot – sticky velcro-side down – wiggled it onto the cards, and – YAAY – pulled the top one out! Repeat for the credit card, and we’re good to go!

Necessity once more the mother of invention! 🤣 Just thought I’d share!
