If you’re entertaining guests this holiday – or snuggling up on your own – here’s the perfect adult beverage – a delicious Sazerac rye cocktail! It’s a fabulous welcoming, warming, comforting taste of the holidays!
(But only if you’re old enough to drink alcohol! If you’re not, you should skip over to this post instead!)

How the Sazerac rye cocktail came to be
As I mentioned in the Luxurious Thanksgiving Tablescape post, I asked my mixologist son to come up with a pretty red cocktail that would go with the table.
I sent him a picture of the table and the little glass I wanted to use.

He looked at it and came up with the perfect cocktail. It’s deep and rich, and completely embodies the warm holiday vibe I wanted!
I’m just beginning my education in this area, but here’s an article with tasting notes that summed up my experience with my Sazerac rye coctail. Cream, caramel, cinnamon, orange, baking spices – really the perfect combination for the holidays!
How I made the Golden Holiday!
I’d never even heard of a Sazerac rye cocktail, but now I’m a true fan! My son said it didn’t have a name, so I’m calling it Golden Holiday! (I could have called it Crimson Holiday because of its gorgeous color, but golden seemed warmer and more holiday-ish!)

I made our Sazerak rye cocktail in a shaker. Then I put in some of the extra garnishes, shook it gently, put the lid on the shaker, and let it stand for a while. As I said, I don’t really know that much about cocktails yet, but letting the orange, cinnamon, and rosemary steep in it for a bit actually seemed to mellow it a little. (If you know about cocktails, feel free to tell me if that was just my imagination or not!)
Plus, making your cocktails ahead is a great way to be prepared when your guests arrive!
Aren’t they pretty? These are tiny little cordial glasses – a little of this deliciousness goes a long way!

I made this for Thanksgiving and it was an absolute HIT. I personally am pregnant, so I wasn’t able to try it, but I can’t wait until my OB gives me the go ahead because I’m still dreaming of having a taste!
Oh excellent, Olivia!! I’m so glad your guests liked it! Congrats on your baby – that’s so exciting! Definitely worth postponing a Golden Holiday for a bit! 😊 Thanks so much for letting me know, and hope you have a wonderful holiday!
