Well here we are, easing into another season, which must mean it’s time for a beautiful fall tablescape! And we’re extra lucky today, because not only do we have my four easy tips, we get 15 other tablescapers inspiring us with their own beautiful tablescapes to welcome fall!
It’s the Welcome Fall Tablescape Blog Hop, hosted by the always supportive, wonderfully organized, and beautifully creative Rita from Panoply! Welcoming the Cozy Season with an Outdoor Table
Even though it might still be a little – or a lot – warm in your area, we can just start to feel the weather turning. The leaves are beginning to flutter to the ground. The evenings are a little cooler. And that cozy feeling is starting to creep in. So while I’m still setting my tables outside, my 4 tips for fall are all about making those tables look and feel cozier!
Beautiful Fall Tablescape Tip #1 – A round table
My first tip for a beautiful fall tablescape is to use a round table. I haven’t had a dinner-sized round table until recently, and I’ve been struck with how much cozier they are! Everybody is facing each other, we can all hear each other! The whole dining experience is more friendly and intimate.
Plus it just looks cozier, doesn’t it?
It’s fine to use a rectangular tablecloth. (I only have one round one, so this was the only design choice I had!) But the mismatch makes an interesting and organic drape, and it feels extra casual and fall-ish to me.
Beautiful Fall Tablescape Tip #2 – Interesting fall colors
Pretty much everybody recognizes that orange and brown are fall colors. There’s nothing wrong with them, of course, but I think it’s fun sometimes to tweak the color scheme just a bit. The peach and tan in our beautiful fall tablescape aren’t really that far off from the orange and brown standard. But they’re a little more sophisticated and interesting, I think.
These gorgeous Normandie plates from Villeroy & Boch don’t actually have either orange or brown in them! But they manage to read as peachy from across the yard as the guests are coming to the table.
The tan of the tablecloth and napkins is nice and neutral, but totally leaning toward fall.
Beautiful Fall Tablescape Tip #3 – Copper
Tip number three is one of my very favorites – copper! It works in every season, but there’s something distinctly autumn-feeling about it. The warmth, the deep hue, the gentle sparkle – they all say fall to me!
I don’t know if I’ve ever told you the sad story about how I gave my huge copper collection away when we moved one time. But after that youthful mistake, I’ve been rebuilding it slowly over the years. And the copper chargers and flatware on this table are among my favorite pieces!
(And since we’re talking about the place setting, we can’t forget the sparkle of crystal. Here’s a picture of the glassware, just for fun!)
And More Copper!
I inherited a kind of goofy coppery bucket-type bowl from my mom – I think she had a plant in it – and I used it here for another copper accent. You can sort of see it in the picture below. (I think that white stuff on it is supposed to make it look “weathered.” I scrubbed the heck out of it, but it won’t come off!)
Beautiful Fall Tablescape Tip #4 – Big flowers
Which brings us right to tip number four for a beautiful fall tablescape: big flowers! As you can see, I’m not even kidding about the big part of this arrangement! I’m still getting used to the dimensions of my new round table, but the concept is sound.
A great big bowl of flowers is the coziest thing about this table! And, arguably, the prettiest too. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a dainty or minimalist flower centerpiece. I do tables with a lot of space all the time – like this one, for instance. But for sheer elegance and coziness, nothing beats a great big bowl of flowers!
And besides the lovely peach shades of the blooms, the thing that makes it Extra Fall is the dried flowers. You can make any arrangement more fall-like by adding a few dried sprigs. And if they’re filmy and delicate, and in the same color family, all the better.
So there are my four easy tips for a beautiful fall tablescape! Let me know what you think in the Comments below!

Barbara, this is absolutely gorgeous! The peach flowers are so pretty and I love it that the bowl is so big on the table and some of the flowers look like their touching the plates. And speaking of plates, Your Normandie set looks so pretty on the copper chargers paired with the copper flatware. The tablecloth is the perfect backdrop and I see peach in some of the flowers (at least on my screen). Lucky are the people who join you at your wonderfully cozy table. Lovely job, my friend and happy almost fall to you!
Barbara Leone says
You are so sweet Kim! I don’t use the Normandie often, so it’s always special when I do. It just calls for peach and copper I feel like! 😊 So gald we got to share the hop! Hope you’re cooling off up there, and fall is setting in. Till next time my friend!

Such a intimate and lovely table for fall Barbara! I love copper for fall, whether polished and hammered or weathered and oxidized. The round table does up the cozy factor and flowers are beautiful. Your tablecloth has a vintage feel to it which I love too. Your Normandie plates by Villeroy & Bach are lovely too. As always, it’s a treat to have a virtual seat at your table and hop with you! Happy almost fall 🍂🍁 🌰
Barbara Leone says
Thanks Mary! The round table is so much fun – I’m loving having this new one to experiment with! Always fun to hop with you too! Take care and Happy Almost Fall to you too!
Sandra @ Dinner at Eight says
Barbara, this is a really lovely introduction to fall. The shades of peach and tan are softer and convey the fading of one season before the explosion of color that is autumn. The patterns on the plates and the gorgeous mound of flowers suggest the abundance of the harvest to come. The copper definitely brings cozy vibes but also a wonderful shimmer from the shine and hammered design. Just beautiful! I enjoy setting round tables because they encourage the flow of design in a different way than rectangular tables. Here’s to a wonderful fall!
Janice Switzer says
Beautiful table setting Barbara. Did I read correctly that you gave your copper collection away – hmmm where was I when you were giving it away and now you are rebuilding. Sounds so familiar. But then, some items are hard to keep “shining” lots of work but so worth it in the end. Love the start of Fall and again what a beautiful tablescape.
Rita C at Panoply says
Barbara, very useful tips for tablescaping. I love round tables, and I love how you used the rectangle tablecloth. That’s a really pretty pattern, loving the faded look. The peach and tan tones.are very nice with this look, and the florals. The V&B china is beautiful. I have a few pieces of copper, and have purchased that same set of chargers from WS. I’m looking forward to using those for fall months, as you have.
Thanks so much for participating in our welcome fall hop and bringing your table talents . I appreciate your warm comment, too.
Linda Primmer says
Barbara, your fall alfresco table is gorgeous. I love the tan and peach combination. A round table is so perfect for conversation. We have a large round copper table on our patio. I see you have embraced copper too. There is something so warm and inviting with copper. Your flowers are gorgeous. I adore your Normandie plates from Villeroy & Boch. They really look so elegant on your table.a pleasure joining you on this fall tablescape blog hop.

Great tips Barbara! I have longed for a round dinner table since the first time I saw Something’s Gotta Give with Diane Keaton! If you have never seen it, it is worth a watch just for the interiors alone! I am also all for a big floral display! The peach alstroemeria make a stunning display. I love the copper details. Especially the flatware! It is funny you should point out that your dishware doesn’t have peach in it, but paired with the lovely floral display and the copper, at first look it really gives a visual of that it does! Stunning as always my friend!
Lynne says
That is one beautiful bowl of flowers, Barb, and stunning in the outdoor setting. I loved the Villeroy and Bosch plates. The flowers pull the colors out perfectly and bring the table together perfectly. Round tables are great and require a bit more thought than the rectangular ones as they are smaller and things are closer together. Makes for a cozy feel. The copper touches are lovely and work well with the rest of the pieces you chose. I’ll be keeping you great tips in mind. Happy Fall!
Lynne
Barbara Leone says
Ha – you’re right about the smaller area on a round table! It took me quite a while to figure out why everything seemed so much closer together – cozy is right! 😊 So glad you stopped by. Happy Fall to you too!

Hi Barbara. I love an alfresco table with nature setting the stage! The flower arrangement is beautiful. Copper and autumn seem to go together, and I love the warmth it provides to your already cozy table. The Villeroy and Boch “ Normndie” plates are beautiful and perfect for your autumn table. Crystal adds the extra elegance that is appreciated. I always enjoy a visit to one of your tables and the tips your provide. Happy Autumn!

I do like to sit at our cozy table for 4, and I have a friend that has a round table for 8 and dinners there are so much fun! Delightful tips for styling a fall table. I love a round table too! Unless I take the leaves out of my dining table, the only round table I have is on my porch. Right now it is just too, too hot for that! Copper is such a good idea for a fall table and your chargers and the pot for the centerpiece coordinate so nicely with your china! Love those flowers! When it comes to flowers I am of the ‘bigger is better’ mind!!
Hugs and happy autumn!
Barbara Leone says
Ha! We definitely share the bigger is better aesthetic with centerpieces! Hugs back, and hope you’re cooling off a little down there. See you soon!
