So I started out meaning to set a green table for St Patrick’s Day, but it turned into a pretty spring tablescape instead!
Green is not a color that I work with a lot. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t gravitate toward it, so I don’t have a lot of green things to work with. But I had the green shamrock holiday on my mind, so went into my tableware closet to see what I could find.
I came up with these olive colored placemats.
and green-tinged goblets.
And I also found these lovely linen napkins.
They were all a little on the dusky and muted green side, rather than the bright emerald green side, but I thought I could make it work. I’d seen some bright green flowers at the store recently, and I thought those would brighten up the setting.
However, when I went to the store to get them, the selection was very different! No bright green flowers, or even any bright greenery.
But the tulips! The peachy pink cottage roses! I was in love!
They had to come home with me, and my muted green table turned into a sophisticated pretty spring tablescape instead. It was almost a mistake, but I loved how it turned out!
The Pretty Spring Tablescape Place Setting
The flowers are the thing, of course, but let’s talk about the place setting for a minute. It was a grey day when I was putting this table together, and I was in a monochrome sort of mood. When I picked out the placemats, my eye fell on these matte black chargers and black floral salad plates.
I thought they would look pretty together and I think I was also imagining a black and white sort of theme, highlighted by the green.
Obviously, it didn’t turn out that way at all, but that’s one of the things that’s so fun about setting tables. Sometimes you don’t get what you set out to create, but you almost always get something beautiful and fun.
Now About the Flowers
These lovely cottage roses just called to me! And the brilliant red tulips set them off, while the white brightened the whole thing up!
The white hydrangeas and other white flowers are actually faux. They worked so well with the roses and tulips, and were so bouncy and springy. They totally brightened up my moody place settings!
The whole effect really reminded me of the spring grass greening, and flowers blooming.
Pretty Spring Tablescape Printables
I don’t always print out a menu or make special place cards. But after this turned into a more sophisticated and pretty spring tablescape, I just felt like it. It was so fun matching the design to the flower arrangement. (And Oops! Please forgive the misspelling of one of my favorite vegetables! I’m just going to say my finger slipped on that E in asparagus! One more example of why proof reading is so necessary!)
But gramar errors aside, guests do love to have the menu printed out. Especially if you’re having several courses, it’s nice to know what’s coming up. They can pace themselves, plus it’s just a little extra fancy. And of course, it’s always fun to have place cards.
If you want to print out the design for your own place cards and menus, just go over to the Members Library. If you’re not a Mantel and Table subscriber, you can sign up when you get there.

So pretty, Barbara! A happy accident the store was out of green flowers!

Your table setting is lovely! You have mentioned almost everything accept the beautiful napkins. I have not seen anything like them before.
Will you share where they were purchased, please?
Barbara Leone says
Hi Carol! I love those napkins too! They were created by a friend I met on Instagram several years ago, but I haven’t been able to find them available recently. I have a message in to her to see if there’s anywhere to get them, and if so, I’ll pass it on to you. Thanks so much for stopping over, and hope you have a lovely weekend!

Your table setting is so pretty and elegant Barbara, I the love the roses centerpiece, and the glasses you have really sparkle and shine…I am hoping to soon find some pretty vintage tumbler glasses that will go with a variety of vintage plates for our table. I’ve been on the look out for some, but haven’t found any yet. Wishing you a happy Spring Season!

Barbara, this is great! I love the moody mix of the St. Paddy’s day plate stack with the bright spring colors of the flowers – they are gorgeous and I can see why they came home with you. I thought it was really cool that you mixed faux flowers with real ones and was checking the close-up pic of the flowers – the one that shows the place card. So did the faux stems actually go in the water or are the flower heads just kind of sitting on top. I’ve thought of doing this before but just wasn’t quite sure. Anyway, it was a lovely table my friend and I hope you enjoy your getaway weekend with blogging friends!!
Barbara Leone says
Thanks Kim! I did stick the faux stems into the water – they’re just really good copies. I actually folded the stems in half. In the picture you looked at, the faux stem is the one coming down diagonally to the SE corner then going back up. The top of the place card mostly obscures the bend, but you hardly notice it when you’re at the table. I’m so happy you stopped by – hope you’re having a lovely weekend!

Aw thanks Jenna! I know – I’m so impressed with the faux flowers these days. And I do love those happy accidents! I took one of the flower arrangements into the office to try to match the colors. 🙂
