Don’t you just love a neutral pink tablescape? Especially if it’s right after the bustling holidays – or really, any time you want a quiet peaceful little break from lots of pattern and color.
(And I call it easy because all the pieces are stored right there in my dining room. I use them all the time – all I had to do was get them out and set them down.)
How About a Backdrop?
I set this table in the small area we call “the Library,” off our living room. It’s a cozy little place with lots of light – one of the few rooms that actually gets any direct sun – so I spend a fair amount of time in it.
A lovely lighweight quilt is a perfect background for the table, and keeps some of the drafts out as well. I feel a little like the people of old who lived in beautiful castles, but had to put up tapestries to keep the walls warm! Our house was built in 1917, so obviously not quite as old as a castle. But they apparently didn’t care as much about insulation 100 years ago as I do today!
The other main reason I hung the quilt is I just didn’t want to look at all the brightly colored books, CDs, and decorations on the shelves along this wall. I so wanted to be in a really neutral space with no visual clutter.
If you ever find yourself in that same position, feel free to temporarily create a different background for yourself.
The Basis of the Neutral Pink Tablescape
Besides the lovely neutral backdrop, the linens form the basis of this table. The tablecloth is pure white, which besides being wonderfully neutral, is one of a tablescaper’s basic tools.
The runner is a beautiful skinny linen item made by my friend Diane at South House Designs. I don’t think she’s producing it anymore, but here’s a very similar one from another very talented friend, Deb at Made on 23rd.
The napkins are also linen. I found some similar ones at Williams Sonoma, which is one of my very favorite home entertaining stores. I could get lost there for hours, and always leave with something wonderful!
It’s worth noting that none of these linens are matching. While I totally love the matching look, it can also be really beautiful to have different shades and textures of the same color.
The Neutral Pink Tablescape Plate Stack
As you can see, all the tableware is silver in tone. Silver seems more minimal and bright to me, versus gold, which always seems so warmly regal and cozy. This neutral pink tablescape just called to me for silver.
Charger Plates
The chargers are some of my very favorites – and yours too, apparently. Mantel and Table readers have bought more of these chargers than anything else!
They’re Antique Silver Plate Chargers from Tiger Chef, and I get them on Amazon. (They’re not really antique, they’re just called that.) Fortunately, they’re modern enough to be super lightweight and strong, and wash up easily! Plus, beautiful!
Austin Platinum Plates
The plates are the Austin Platinum pattern from Noritake. I fell in love with these back when I was planning for a tablescape competition several years ago. They were just perfect for what I wanted, and I was crazy about them as well.
The pattern is lovely – a champagne-silver border with a curved pattern that reminds me of the holes on a violin. You know there’s some texture, but you don’t really notice the actual pattern until you’re up close. The silver-bordered charcoal ring has got a quietly sophisticated matte finish. Then there’s a row of little silver dots. Really intriguing and beautiful.
One thin silver ring in the middle is all the extra decoration this gorgeous pattern needs! Here are links to the various pieces, and if you want others, Replacements.com has a large and varied selection.
Gorgeous Accent Plates
But the thing that really sold me on this china pattern was the accent plate. Look at that beautiful piece!
Besides the lovely scalloped edge, it has that wide band of the matte charcoal color. There’s a great subtle graphic double arch texture too, which I love.
The closeup looks gold in this light, but you know it’s really that champagney silver. Check out some of the other pictures for the actual colors. I just wanted you to see that gorgeous pattern!
Plus, if you’re a fellow china lover, you know the thrill of holding a true quality piece. These are solid, and you can feel the heft and smoothness – they just feel good in your hands. <sigh … !>
The Rest of the Silver in our Neutral Pink Tablescape
Next on our neutral pink tablescape come the other silver pieces – the flatware, napkin rings, and centerpiece.
Wallace Rose Point Silverware
In this case, the flatware is silver – Wallace Rose Point. My mom started collecting it for me when I was just 15. Usually, I didn’t like the same styles as my mom. She was very Midcentury Modern, and I was – and am – much more Traditional. I loved my grandmother’s things more than Mom’s. But I absolutely LOVED the flatware she chose for me.
Flowery and lacy with the intricate scrolls and graceful pointed ends – everything my feminine 15 year old heart adored. And at the same time, solid enough to not be too delicate. I still love it!
Spoon Handle Napkin Rings
The napkin rings are made from old silverware by a guy at the Portland Saturday Market. I got them many years ago, but he’s still down there every weekend. You never know what patterns he’s going to have, and I keep my eyes open for some Rose Point every time I’m there!
The Centerpiece Vase
The little vintage silver vase is really a compote that I got from my grandmother. (Grandmother – see?) It has a cobalt blue glass bowl insert that’s really pretty. But I didn’t want blue on this table, so I switched out with a clear one.
You can’t see it very well in most of the pictures, but I got this one that shows most of it at least. I couldn’t find anything like it that was new, but there seem to be quite a few variations on Etsy and the vintage sites.
Glassware
And, we can’t forget the glassware! These are my usual suspects:
The lovely, heavy, indestructible Godinger Crystal Highball Glasses that I use for water. They make really great highball glasses too!
And our favorite wine glasses, Reidel Bordeaux and their small white wine glasses.
Beatuiful Flowers Are the Pink in The Neutral Pink Tablescape
I saw these gorgeous roses and just had to use them in my elegant neutral table. They are SO stunning! I never cease to be amazed at how we can get such beautiful fresh flowers in the dead of winter!
I cut the stems to about 4″ or so, then put a little flower frog in the vase and stuck them in. There were just enough pink and peachy-blush blooms to fill up the cup. I left leaves on a couple of the tulips, but I didn’t want to interrupt that lovely pink with too much green.
Onto the table with the flowers, and then we were ready to sit down to a lovely calm and peaceful lunch at our neutral pink tablescape. Such a treat on a cold winter day – or any day!

I love the use of the quilt to help define and neutralize the space, and make it more cozy! The china is gorgeous! I have similar glassware – footed tumblers – by Godinger and really love it!
Barbara Leone says
Thanks so much Janet! I was just so in the mood for relaxing. And don’t you love that Godinger? I like almost everything they make. So glad you stopped by!

Very pretty table Barbara – love the “color” you chose! The china, silverware, and stemware are all just beautiful and I can see why you fell in love with all of them. The pink flowers add the perfect pop and are such gorgeous shades. Your quilt as a backdrop is a fab idea. I hope you enjoyed a wonderful lunch at your beautiful table!

Oh thank you MaryJo! Aren’t those napkin rings fun?! I’m so happy you stopped over. Hope you’re having a lovely month so far!
Sandra @ Dinner at Eight says
Barbara, you’ve set another classically lovely table with gorgeous dinnerware! I love the elegance of the dishes with their deceptively simple detailing. The silver flatware is a marvelous counterpoint and I love that you have continued to love the pattern over time. You’re right about needing a **short** break from colors and patterns. The quilt as a backdrop is a great idea.
Barbara Leone says
Ha! Yes, the break will be short – wait till you see next week! 🤣 Thanks so much for stopping over Sandra. I’m on my way to your site where I think I saw something about chocolate … ?! My favorite food group! See you there!
Andrea says
Gorgeous as always. You have so much pretty silver. How do you keep it looking so good? Any secrets you can share?
Barbara Leone says
Hi Andrea! I have one big silver secret, and that is to USE IT often! Ok, I guess I actually have two silver secrets – the other one is that when I wash it after I use it, I give it a quick wipe with silver polish before the rinse. It only takes a few seconds more, and keeps the silver shiny! 😊Happy Thursday my friend – thanks for stopping by!
Renae Frey says
So pretty, my friend. The flowers are stunning. Hugs to you.
Barbara Leone says
Thanks so much Renae – I’m so glad you like them! Take care and stay warm out there!
Jenna says
Beautiful, simple and elegant! I love the quilt hanging on the wall, a lovely cozy winter spot! The pink and white color palette is wonderful~
Barbara Leone says
Thanks Jenna! The quilt really did keep the drafts out – I’d keep it up all the time, only then we couldn’t get to our books! 🤣 Hope you’re doing well down there!
Lynne says
Love this table setting, Barbara. Neutral and calm after the busy holiday season is just perfect. The china is beautiful and I was drawn to the flatware as I have the same Rose Point pattern myself, started for me by my Grandmother. Isn’t family wonderful? Thanks for sharing this . Have a wonderful week.
Lynne

Hi Lynne – that’s so fun that we share the same flatware pattern! Family IS wonderful, especially when they like china and silver! 🤣 I especially love the connection, and the memories of my relatives every time I use it. So sweet of you to stop by! Happy Thursday!
