We’ve got something a little different for St Patrick’s Day this year – a pot of gold and a beautiful rainbow! Today I’m joining the Lucky Charms St Patrick’s Day blog hop, hosted by Debbee from Debbee’s Buzz, a fabulous tablescaper, and wonderful hop organizer!
If you’re coming over from Ann at the Corner of Plaid and Paisley, didn’t you just love her shamrock cloth? And what a great story! A bit like our own Traveling Teacup!
Making a rainbow
I got all these gorgeous faux flowers a couple years ago and have been waiting for the perfect time to make a rainbow out of them. You know how sometimes you get an idea, but you just can’t make it come together? That’s what happened with these flowers.
Most of the faux flowers I’ve ever bought come with super long stems. In theory, you’re supposed to be able to bend them to be the length you want. But that doesn’t always work for me. For instance, how are you going to handle all the extra balled up or folded over stem in an arrangement like this?
But I was always afraid to cut them, because what if I needed them long someday?! BUT, I’ve never actually made huge arrangements that need long stems!
So after storing the long rainbow flowers for all those years, I finally just bit the bullet and cut them down with wire cutters! I did save the cut stems though, so if I ever decide I want them to be long again, I can reattach them with green floral tape. I CAN have my cake and eat it too, and I finally was able to use these beauties the way I wanted! Amazing what happens when you just go ahead and DO it, right?
ANYway, here’s my flower rainbow, with not just one pot of gold, but a whole table full!
The pot of gold centerpiece
I’ve always been fascinated by the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It rains a lot here in the Pacific Northwest, and we get our fair share of rainbows, so I think about the pot of gold a lot.
I wanted my rainbow to kind of float over the table, so I used some of my crystal water glasses to hold the stems. Against the white tablecloth, you can hardly see them. And the sparkle you can see might even be like the lingering raindrops in the sky! (Ok, that might be stretching it, I know, but go with me, here.)
Candles
We almost always have candles on our tables, but I didn’t want them to compete with my rainbow. So I used these delicate rose gold taper holders that don’t interfere with my rainbow vibe. I actually got these for my milestone birthday party, and have been loving them ever since!
And see how I arranged them so they weren’t smack in the face of the person sitting opposite? That’s a little candle trick I learned from my mom long ago – just leave some holes in the row of candles! Even though they aren’t evenly spaced, the table still looks balanced because they’re symmetrical. Two on each end, and two in the middle. And room to see your partner across the way.
Pots of gold in the tablescape
So now we come to the pots of gold in the pot of gold tablescape. Aren’t these little dutch ovens the cutest things?! I also used them in this fun outdoor fall table. They’re not only adorable, but versatile too.
They’re from Home Depot, and sell out regularly because they’re so darling. But they do have a waitlist, so go ahead and get on it as fast as possible! 🙂
Pot of gold place cards
I consider my friends my greatest treasure, so it was appropriate that I could use the pots for place cards. Because we were having soup for the first course, I didn’t want to fill them with coins or anything that would be messy or fussy when it came time to serve. So I made these gold ribbon bows. They look like gold mounded in the pots, but when it’s time to sit down, my guests can just take them out and lay them above the napkin. Plus, then they’ll still provide decoration for the table while we eat!
I also included little gold shamrocks with my guests’ initials, to act as place cards. Place cards are so fun – especially when they’re a bit different or unique. My guests always love them, and look forward to finding their spot!
The rest of the setting
The rest of the pot of gold tablescape setting echoes the gold theme. Gold chargers, gold-rimmed china, gold flatware, and gold napkin rings get the point across and are elegant at the same time.
You’ve likely heard me go off about these chargers before, but I love them! They’re a sturdy, lightweight plastic, and very inexpensive. They come in lots of colors, and are so handy to have around. I keep them in the buffet right in my dining room, and pull them out almost every night.
The plates are from a set I got for my first tablescape competition. I really only needed two place settings. However, the antique store didn’t want to break up the set, and it was relatively inexpensive … , and so my china habit was born!
Flatware
This flatware is so fun – I get comments on it almost every time I use it. It’s heavy and feels good in your hand too. And the knives are great. Probably because the blades were so small, I thought they wouldn’t do a very good job of cutting, but they totally do! In fact, I reach for one of these when I want to cut cherry tomatoes or something delicate that needs precision!
Glassware
The water glasses continue the shimmer of the centerpiece. And of course my favorite Riedel wine glasses, which I’ve told you about a million times. But only because I love them so much!
Over the rainbow!
And so, I’ll leave you with a final picture. I love the photos I see of tables from above. I haven’t really found a great way to do that at my house yet, but I stood on a chair and raised my camera as high as I could for the one below. It looks a little wonky, but you get the idea!
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing St Patrick’s Day ideas with me! Shopping is below, then continue on to see what the other bloggers on the Lucky Charms hop are up to.

Barbara, I love your ingenuity with your rainbow of flowers! Such a fabulous idea and your table just sparkles. From the sweet little Dutch oven to your pretty flatware….it is all just so lovely. Thank you for sharing and I wish I lived closer so I could attend one of your exquisite dinners.
Barbara Leone says
I wish you lived closer too – just think of all the tables and mantels we could decorate! Plus I might bribe you into some advice on my yard – yours is beautiful! 🙂 So sweet of you to pop by today. Have a great week my friend!
Pam Richardson says
Barbara, I just love your rainbow centerpiece of faux flowers! The table is beautiful with all the gold details that you included. The copper Dutch pots are super cute! I might should get on that waiting list. I know your guests love sitting at one of your stunning tables. Happy St. Patrick’s Day 💚
Barbara Leone says
Oh thank you Pam – how sweet of you! Yes, you should definitely get on the list – I love those things, and they’re so good for actually cooking in too. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by and hope you have a lovely St Patrick’s Day!

What a fabulous tablescape! I love the rainbow them because any time I see one it reminds me of God & His promise to us. Making one with flowers will now be on my to-do list! It was great hopping with you!
Barbara Leone says
Hi Niki! Sorry for the late reply – your comment went to spam somehow. I love a rainbow too, and can’t wait to see how you do yours! Thanks so much for stopping over – it was great hopping with you too!

What a sweet and fun, clever tablescape, Barbara! I am so glad you cut them. It’s so funny I lol’d when I read that because I have done the same thing. I will tell you to just toss the stems. You will never use them huge. Hydrangeas never have long stems like that. Heh.
So – love love love those cute wee “pots of gold.” That’s brilliant. You know another thing – though it would add to the cost of the party – but you could always get a bunch of those gold foil covered chocolate coins. Perhaps have gold tissue paper for the base so you needn’t use so many choc coins – Anyway your table is awesome and wanted to let you know I really liked it. Sorry I have been so MIA lately – just trying to stay a bit less plugged in lately. Been in a big time reading bent. Been nice. But I miss sweet friends like you so I shall make a point to keep in better touch. Laethanta sona. ♣

Michele! So nice to see you, but I know what you mean about being unplugged – it is nice. 🙂 But feel free to stop by any time! Great suggestions, thanks! Since you’re reading these days, I have a great one to recommend if you like funny warm-hearted novels about beating the bad guys and growing in the process. It’s called Someone Else’s Shoes by JoJo Moyes https://amzn.to/3JwfFTJ I read it straight through and loved it! Hope you’re doing well over there. Take care and see you when I see you! 💚
Kim | Shiplap and Shells says
This tablescape is so clever, Barbara. I absolutely love the rainbow of flowers.
Barbara Leone says
Thanks Kim! Maybe we’ll see a real one tomorrow! 🙂 So sweet of you to stop by – hope you’re doing well up there!💚
Debbee says
Barbara, what a unique and clever styling of a St. Patrick’s Day theme tablescape! So glad you finally bit the bullet or cut the stem lol! Using the beautiful crystal glasses to create the illusion of a floating rainbow is genius! And, I like how you incorporated and spaced the candles. Although it’s hard to take my eyes from the beautiful centerpiece, your place settings are golden (lol) and rich (can’t stop myself..) in detail. Careful of all the leprechauns who will be lured to your table. Save a seat for me!
Barbara Leone says
Hahahaha Debbee – you crack me up! AND inspire me with your gorgeous tables and masterful hop-organizing chops! Thanks so much for hosting this one! 💚Hope you have a Happy St Patrick’s Day my friend!
Debra Oliver says
Such a perfect theme for a St. Patrick’s Day tablescape. I so love your wonderful rainbow and how your table glows and shimmers! So beautiful Barbara. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
Barbara Leone says
Thanks so much Debra and Happy St Patrick’s to you too! So nice to share Debbee’s hop with you and your beautiful seed and china and lamb vignette. I always get so much inspiration from your lovely posts. 🙂
Kim says
Barbara, a beautiful rainbow table indeed! The flower arrangement is gorgeous and I love how you set them down the table interspersed with the candles. The plate stack, flatware, and stemware are really pretty too, but sit in the background so as not to compete with the centerpiece. The copper dutch ovens/pots of gold are the crowning glory. You are so creative my friend and I hope you gather with family and friends to celebrate this lovely table on St. Patrick’s day!
Barbara Leone says
Aw thanks Kim! Not sure if we’ll actually have any company on the day, but it’s always fun with just my husband and me. Hope you have a lovely St Patrick’s Day too! I can’t wait to see your table – I’m on my way there next! See you in a minute! 🙂
Rita C at Panoply says
What a beautifully executed rainbow centerpiece with your faux florals, Barbara! And the candlesticks look lovely too. Those little copper Dutch ovens are just too cute! I love how you made your florals the star of this table while the staples beneath really anchor it all. Well done.
I have had the same conundrum with long stems on faux florals, but my problem is I really have had the need for the long stems in my tall vases I’ve used. I laughed at your comment of the balled up stems because I have actually had that too (and how they’ve gotten stuck in a smaller vase opening than that balled up stem). So the idea of floral tape sounds good because yes, I did save the stems of what ones I did cut (and even with a wire cutter, that wasn’t easy!).
Happy to be in your company on Debbee’s blog hop. Happy St Patrick’s Day to you!☘️
Barbara Leone says
Haha Rita – I got a perfect picture in my mind of you trying to get the balled up stems out of the vase, because I’ve had that very thing happen! I thought about making a video about cutting those stems because it was such a process, but fortunately I spared us all the twisting and bending, and possibly the new vocabulary words too! I wonder if they make special shears for that sort of thing? 😊 ANYway, glad you liked the table, and it’s always so fun to hop with you! Hope you have a lovely St Patrick’s Day too!
Mary says
Barbara, I love your rainbow of flowers as a centerpiece for your table! Your wee pots of copper/gold are adorable, I can see how they would be super versatile. I love your gold shamrocks with guests’ initials acting as place cards too. There is no substitute for Riedel wine glasses! 🍷 It’s such a treat to hop with you today! Happy March and Erin go Bragh ☘️
Barbara Leone says
Yaay – another Riedel fan! Do you have a favorite glass/wine style? I admit, I’m mostly a crispy white or bubbles fan, but if I can get my hands on an old Bordeaux, I’ll definitely suffer through in that beautiful glass! 🤣 So fun hopping with you this time, and getting inspiration from your wonderful blog any time. Hope you have a lovely March too!
Jenna says
This is gorgeous Barbara! And so creative!! I love your flower rainbow, and yes I have often wondered if I cut faux stems if I would regret it later, aren’t you brilliant to save the pieces so you can reattach if you want! The mini gold tureens are adorable, why does Home Depot carry something like that? The gold bows is a clever way to fill them, and how cute is the monogram shamrock place indicator! The candle placement looks great and a nice solution for the ever present candlestick dilemma! The gold chargers and gold flatware are perfect, I love it all!
Barbara Leone says
Thanks Jenna! Haha – I know – Home Depot doesn’t seem a likely place, but they’ve actually started carrying home goods now and some of their stock is really cool! Take a peek here: https://rstyle.me/+PXrQMC4nYWtUMJzF8tJ2TA
Always wonderful to see you, and to share a hop! Hope you have a lovely week and a Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Kari @ Me and My Captain says
I love your rainbow table Barb…and you are right about long stems…I have kept them long for the very reason you stated. AND have kept the stems for the reason you stated. LOL Your chargers are lovely as are the little dutch copper pots. I have always loved your milestone birthday party table and this one reminds me of that exciting party and your favors for your guests. (I have it stored in my “Must Keep” list.) Someday…..maybe I will try that one. Thank you for sharing and all your inspiration. Happy St. Patrick’s Day my friend!.
Barbara Leone says
Haha – it seems so simple now – I should have cut those flowers a long time ago! Do you ever tape yours back together and use them long? I’m planning to try it just to see how it works! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by – it’s always so fun to hop with you! Happy St Patrick’s back!
Kari Rogers-Miller says
Yes, I did but made sure my vase was not see through! LOL

Haha! Good idea! 😊
Cara says
Barbara, I love your rainbow of flowers, how festive. I’d use this rainbow all spring, it is so cute. Thank you for the tip about the candles, I always try to place short items on the table, but now I know to just make a few adjustments. I am a shortie so this will help me see my guests across the table! Those pots are the bees knees! So cute, and quite fitting for your tablescape. Thank you for sharing your inspiration!
Barbara Leone says
Hi Cara – So glad you like the rainbow, and yes those pots are darling! I hope they come back into stock someday soon! 🙂 Thanks so much for popping over, it’s so nice hopping with you!
