Don’t you just love a copper tablescape? I love the glow and the warmth, and how the color just says fall to me. So when a group of blogging friends decided to do an Autumn in August blog hop, the thing that popped into my mind was copper.
Autumn in August
If you’ve come over from my dear friend Mary at Life at Bella Terra, I’m so glad to have you! And how ever you got here, Welcome! You’re going to love all the great ideas, so be sure to go all the way to the bottom to hop to the next fall post. Special thanks to Andrea at Design Morsels for hosting!

I have to tell you though, when someone in our blogger group suggested the name for this hop, I heard “Ottoman August,” and had visions of posts full of tufted orange pumpkin-shaped foot stools … ! Obviously, I was quite relieved when the true name was made clear to me. Getting old is so entertaining! 🙂
But be that as it may, we’re now going to be talking about a lovely copper tablescape for fall.

Copper Tablescape Details
So let’s start by talking about the actual copper in this setting. It starts for me with the chargers, which are actual hammered copper. I wanted the copper to be the star of the show, so the rest of the setting is very neutral. The chargers have all that texture too, which catches the light and makes the setting extra warm.

The napkin rings are the next copper element, and they’re particularly fall with their leaf design.

Then we have the copper flatware to frame the setting. I like the way all the elements worked spatially – the frame of copper flatware, the round of copper charger, and the center copper napkin ring. It made the place setting very graphic and symmetrical.

Fall colored flowers for the centerpieces
To go with our copper place setting, I chose some fall colored flowers for the centerpieces. But in keeping with our bright, open-feeling table, I had a high percentage of white, cream, and light colors.
I chose crystal glasses for the vases, to keep that same open feeling.

This is one of my favorite flower arranging techniques. I line up my vases and just put one of the same kind of flower into each one. Continue this even distribution until you run out of flowers! It’s super easy, and gives a really balanced, cohesive looks to the different arrangements.

Add in some gold for depth
If you like the collected look like I do, you’ll want to add in something a little different to keep your tablescape from being too one-dimensional. In this case, I added some gold in the form of candlesticks and the chargers at the ends of the table.
As you might guess, the end chargers are different because I don’t have enough copper chargers to go around. I could have chosen any number of different colors or styles from my charger collection, but gold blended in best with the flowers. Plus I had the gold candlesticks, so it all worked out great.

Glassware for the copper tablescape
From this angle, doesn’t the table looks like a forest of glasses? I always love the way clear glasses add sparkle and interest without blocking the look of the tablescape.

As is often the case at my house, I used several different kinds of wine glasses. There are a couple reasons for this. One is that sometimes I don’t have enough of any one kind to go around.
And another is that often we’ll be tasting specific wines that do better in different glasses. Usually each person in a couple gets a different glass so they can share two wines between them.

White vintage dishes
At the risk of re-repeating myself, my whole object with this copper tablescape was to keep it open and bright. So white dishes were the order of the day. You’ve likely seen this set before, as I use it all the time – the pattern is Ranson by Haviland.

Anyway, this time when I was setting the table, I wasn’t happy with the look with just the dinner and salad plates. I thought the setting needed something else, and I found it in the soup bowls. Adding them and the soup spoon really made the setting.
So then I had to serve some soup!

Fabulous cream of mushroom soup!
Because it’s so warm and comforting, cream of mushroom soup popped into my head. So I went on the internet and found an excellent recipe. Cream of Mushroom Soup recipe from CafeDelites
Not only was it reasonably easy to make, since I hadn’t left myself much time, but it was really delicious! And pretty too – it looked perfect in those beautiful soup bowls.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a picture of the soup, but I did get a picture of our dessert. My brother loves my famous teenager-approved chocolate chip cookies, so I make them for him almost every time he comes over. You can see them hanging out on the buffet just waiting to be eaten!

White napkins
And finally, the napkins. White again, to tie in with the tablecloth and keep that simple bright theme going. I love to hang them down the edge of the table. It makes such a statement, and guests always comment on how elegant they look.

Oh I love this!! The floral arrangements look like they’re floating in those simple, clear vases. And the way the copper reflects in the sparkling glassware—just magical! Happy birthday!
Thank you so much Cindy! And thanks for popping in on Instagram too – it’s always so fun to share with fellow tablescapers! 🙂 Hope you have a lovely weekend!
The copper against the white backdrop is just stunning! I’ve also had my eye on the flatware you shared here. Love that you give a portion to Habitat for Humanity, and I will have to check out Proud Ground.

Barbara… your Fall table is to die for. I love it all – the small flower arrangements down the middle of the table. And those copper chargers – wowza!!! Gorgeous! Great price on Amazon too! Hope you have a wonderful week!
Katie – how sweet of you to stop by! So glad you like the table – I love that copper too! 🧡 I’m so happy you’re back, and here’s to a smooth September re-entry! 🥂
Yes…I know I already commented before, but I re-read this when I showed the carpenter your built-in. It’s always nice to revisit those posts I really, really like. Oh, and “Ottoman August.” Uh huh. OK. Yeah, that could’ve been interesting, I suppose. I suppose.😏
I am a copper lover, although I own very little. It’s one of those warm metals that just makes me feel toasty and at home. But you’re so right…it’s also one of those metals that need to be tempered a bit. White is the natural juxtaposition to the deep yet somehow still bright tones of the copper. You’ve worked wonders with it here, and I love the way you worked the coppery-colored mums into the mix! A parade of them down the table’s center with just a touch of gold and white blooms for visual interest…magic!
If the cookies are “teenager approved”, then they MUST BE spectacular! You didn’t skimp on the chips, either. I can easily see them from this far back away from the buffet!🍪🍪🍪
OK…done with “War & Peace, Pt. 2”. I just wanted to let you know how much I truly, truly enjoyed this particular post. Have a great week!
Haha – you can stop by and revisit anytime you want – I love having you here! 🙂 What did the carpenter say about the built-ins? “Lady, those were made over 100 years ago – we don’t have wood that fat and poorly cut anymore. You don’t want it to be JUST like that do you … ?!” 🤣 But I’m honored that our dining room can be any kind of inspiration, since I get so much from yours! And no, there’s no Chip-Skimping in our house – bring on the chocolate! If you happen to be in Portland, stop by and I’ll whip you up some! 🙂 Happy Week to you too my friend!
I ended up buying readymade cabinets from a great boutique spot called Charmed House Interiors for the dining room. I got cold feet at the last minute when things didn’t seem to mesh with the carpenter. I figure we’ll be moving from this house in 5-8 years, so we can just take the new things with us if we want. I sure hope I made the right decision. I think the new ones are to be delivered this week. They are the perfect size and complement the ones in the library, so fingers crossed!🤞🏽 Have a great night!
Oh that sounds like a great idea, and probably much more manageable! Faster result too, which is always nice! 🙂 Can’t wait to see what they look like – fingers are crossed!
I am pretty sure you and I have met in another life! You did EXACTLY what I have recently done with a copper table: add some gold. I did it because I wasn’t sure exactly what color the “main attraction” of the centerpiece was. It seemed to be a weird “swirl” of copper and gold. So, what’s a girl to do?🤷🏽♀️
This is l-o-v-e-l-y in every sense of the word. EVERY sense of the word! I love the parade of florals down the center. I REALLY love those chargers!!! Every detail is finetuned to absolute perfection. You make me want to get up off my lazy behind and go do something creative today!
I really like your built-in with the mantel. I have a guy coming out next week to give me an estimate on a built-in display cabinet in our dining room as I have tired of the vitrine that has been there for all of 2 years now. I am so “extra.”🙄 I’m going to show him the picture of yours as a template. I can hear the cash register wildly dinging as I type.😲 I just know this is going to cost me big time.
You have thoroughly delighted me with this beautiful tablescape this morning! Have a fantastic weekend!!!
See? I knew you’d get what I was doing with the copper and gold! I’m so glad you like the table – those copper chargers are so cool. But don’t bestir yourself on my account – nothing like a lazy day in the summer! 🙂 “Extra” notwithstanding, a new cabinet sounds wonderful! I love ours, though it needs a makeover after 100+ years. I’ll be excited to see what you and your carpenter come up with, but yes, prepare your checkbook for a wild ride! Happy Happy Weekend my friend!
Barbara, you are a master at gorgeous tablescapes! I had a good chuckle at the phrase Ottoman August! Too funny. I can imagine huge orange puffs all over a living room!! 😂 Pinned! Have a great week!
Oh thank you so much Cindy! Haha – glad someone else thought it was funny! 🙂 I really appreciate the pin, too. Hope you have a lovely week as well, and get to enjoy the tail end of summer.
As always you amaze me with your talent and creativity, Barbara! I love all the copper touches you used and how they effortlessly tie into the flowers. It’s all seriously stunning. Can’t wait to see what else is in store – no doubt, it’s going to be amazing! Hugs, CoCo

I love copper so much for fall Barbara and this table is AMAZING! I really want to use hammered copper plates this fall season. The ones you offered are already sold out but I am now definitely on the hunt. And the beautiful napkin holders are a perfect fall touch. I am always so inspired by your tablescapes and this one is no exception, my friend.
