Actually, there are lots of ways to love a beautiful Rose Chintz teacup, but here’s one of my favorites. Style it on your mantel, then drink tea out of it!
I just love this old china pattern! I’ve been liking pink – and shades of pink – more and more, and this classic Rose Chintz teacup epitomizes the old floral idea for me.
Tea in My New Home Office
I’ve been refreshing my home office/guest room for quite a while now. And while I’ve dramatically changed the look, I haven’t finished it yet. For instance, although I do have somewhere cozy to sit, I don’t have a table to put my tea on. So the mantel it is!
The tea pot, sugar, and creamer you see with our lovely Rose Chintz teacup is from a set I got a while back. It’s another pattern that I love so much – Ranson by Haviland. You can learn how I got this whole set in This Post.
Using Our Rose Chintz Teacup For Inspiration
Back when Teacup Tuesday was a much more regular thing, we had a section in each post where I would let my imagination run wild. Those imaginings often took a decorating turn, and today’s post follows right along with that trend. As I mentioned, my home office is in process, and this Rose Chintz teacup gave me lots of ideas.
Currently on my couch, I have a white slip cover and white throw pillows. Now I’m thinking that I need some pillows in a pink floral pattern, reminiscent of the Rose Chintz teacup pattern. I also have a large floor pillow that’s currently a sage-y green color, but wouldn’t it be lovely in a dusty pink? Maybe I’ll see about getting a mate for it while I’m at it.
Back in that same post about Ranson china, I also talk about the marble table I got from my mother. I’m loving it so much, that maybe I’ll get a marble coffee table &/or end tables for my new office. A pretty marble table would be the perfect place to set my tea things instead of the mantel.
New window coverings are coming too, and a beautiful crystal ceiling light I have but haven’t put up yet. Some pink-ish floral wall art would tie it all together, don’t you think?
Rose Chintz History
And of course, no Teacup Tuesday – or Thursday either – would be complete without a little history. The well known Johnson Brothers pottery made the Rose Chintz pattern from 1930 – 2011.
One source mentioned that the pink mark is the oldest, dating from 1930 – 1950.
I haven’t been able to find a single thing on the stamped mark below, but if anything ever surfaces, I’ll update you. Or of course as always, if you know, let me know!
The firm was, indeed, started by brothers. Two to start, then as time went on, the other two brothers joined in. It did very well – with the usual ups and downs during the wars – until the sixties. They sold the company to Wedgwood in 1968, and they still used the Johnson Brothers name off and on until the early 2000s.
Wedgwood moved production of the Johnson Brothers pieces to China in 2003. And when Fiskars acquired Waterford Wedgwood Group in 2015, that was the end of Johnson Brothers. All in all, not a bad run! If you want more interesting Johnson Brothers history, try this link The Potteries or this one Collectors Weekly.
Extra Decoration
Don’t you just love when a teacup has decoration inside? It’s almost like uncovering a little secret!
(Although in this case, the decoration is at the top, plus you can see through the tea, so it’s not really a surprise.)
But it’s a nice little extra bit of prettiness and fun with your tea.
Thanks For Joining Me
It’s been fun to dive into the teacup world again, especially with my favorite pink Rose Chintz teacup.
I’m so glad you like teacups too. Let me know what’s on your mind down in the comments. It’s almost like we’re sitting having a nice chatty tea together!
Take care till next time!

Barbara, I love the Rose Chintz pattern and the way you have styled it suits me to a T(ea)! About the china marks: I don’t know if you’re on Twitter, but you can find @antiquesandtea there, and she is a veritable font of information about the potteries and the marks and all that. Your home office is going to be the most beautiful one ever.

Oh thanks Jean – I don’t post on Twitter myself, but I’ll look her up! I love getting more info on china and etc. Still working on the office, but I’m liking it so far! 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping over, and Happy rest of your Sunday!

This teacup is so beautiful Barbara and I love how you have everything set up on the mantel too. I can’t wait to see more from your home office and it was nice learning about the pattern as well. I swear items like these are getting harder and harder to find in Florida but that doesn’t stop me from hitting the treasure trail. Hugs for a happy weekend, CoCo

Thanks CoCo! It sure IS fun going treasure hunting! My husband wants to take a trip to the coast soon, but the only reason I want to go is to shop at the most amazing vintage store up there! 🙂 Happy hunting, and Happy Friday!

Barbara, I totally agree with Jenna – so so pretty. I love pink and those flowers in the background with the candles and lovely tea service make a gorgeous vignette on your mantel. And the chintz tea cup is the icing on the cake. Hope you enjoyed the tea. Just lovely!
