Don’t you love a romantic table setting? I sure do, and Valentine’s Day is just perfect for one!
This one is a subtly romantic table setting – one you could use all year, not just at this very romantic holiday.
I do so love gold, silver, and white. They’re elegant but understated, and make a big impact when you use them together.
Add in some soft color with the flower arrangement, and you’ve got the makings of a lovely romantic table setting.
I actually did a series about the same table with different centerpieces which illustrates this point perfectly. Here’s the first one, if you want to check it out.
Romantic Table Setting for a Double Date
We love to have people over. And more often than not, we share Valentine’s Day with close friends – a double date if you will!
Here, I put the table to its smallest proportions so it has a more intimate feel than usual.
This set up is very like what I do almost every time we sit down at the table. But with a few extra touches to elevate it for our double date.
First, a Lovely Tablecloth
To me, a tablecloth says “fancy!” For instance, I use a charger almost every night. But I almost never use a tablecloth unless I want my table to be extra special. And a white tablecloth is the fanciest of all! (At least the most formal of all.) And it makes a great base for a romantic table setting.
This one has a lot of texture, which I love. The days of the rigidly ironed tablecloth are gone, but I still like to keep mine as wrinkle-free as possible. This one just came straight out of the dryer and onto the table.
Place Cards Make a Romantic Table Setting Even More Intimate
Place cards are another little touch that makes a table so much more special. Here, I asked my wonderful husband, who is way more artistic than I am, to write the guests’ names on the cards.
I’ve seen tons of creative ways to use place cards. You can put them in stands or even stick them in pinecones, depending on the look you’re going for. In this case, I just set them gently on the plate for some casual elegance.
These particular cards are heavy glossy card stock, and come folded like a tent. Since I was down to my last few and wasn’t going to stand them up anyway, I cut them on the fold to make a flat card.
Crystal for Elegance
If a tablecloth says fancy, crystal says “elegant!” Here we have some crystal candle holders and centerpiece vase (which you’ll see more of later) with lots of cut facets for maximum sparkle.
We also have wine glasses that not only sparkle, but have a lovely gold rim around the top. Together they go a long way toward making our romantic table setting elegant as well.
They also have a beautiful etched floral design, which echoes the florals in our centerpiece.
Which brings us to the next romantic touch –
A Beautiful Centerpiece in Valentines Colors
Pink is the color of romance! (It’s really a perfect color to accent a wide variety of table settings, not just romantic table settings. I’ve always wanted to do a black and white and pink one, for instance.) But in this case, it IS romantic and does justice to our white, gold, and silver table.
This arrangement uses my basic concept of three different shades of the same color. The lilies are light pink, the carnations (which weren’t all the way open for this photo,) are a little deeper shade, and the tulips a deep pink. They complement each other while still keeping a cohesive look.
The eucalyptus gives the arrangement some extra width, and also some flowy movement that I really like.
What’s a Romantic Table Setting Without Candles?
And finally, candles! A true nod to romance.
I also wanted to point out another little thing that adds so much to your setting. See the greenery behind the table on the buffet? That’s the eucalyptus and unopened lilies left over from making my centerpiece! I just stuck them in a pitcher, and set them out. It wasn’t an “arrangement,” but it added a nice extra touch to the room.
Thanks for sharing my romantic table setting! Let me know how you make your settings romantic – I’d love to hear what you’re planning for the occasion!
And here’s a secret! With the exception of only 3 things, this whole table was set with pieces from Goodwill that I picked up for less than $90 on a lunch hour! You can share my shopping trip at the YES YOU REALLY CAN SET A BEAUTIFUL TABLE FOR CHEAP! post.
