And that’s a lot of alliteration for our lovely Louisiana Teacup! Following along will be lots of fun too! But before we meet her host and share their visit, let’s catch up on our teacup’s travels!
It Started Here
Back at the beginning, I put out a photo challenge involving our teacup. Here’s the post where it all started, The Exciting Beginnings of The Traveling Teacup.
If you’ve been following along, you might know that she’s into her second year of globe trotting! You can click HERE to read her final visit of year one. And see the map and full list of first year hosts.
But Now, Continuing with Year Two
Here’re the places our teacup, named Tessa Rose by her hosts, has been so far in her second year:
- A gorgeous farm in Estacada OR, the home of brilliant blogger, table stylist, and entrepreneur Renae Frey.
- An exciting train ride to Santa Fe NM with the always fun and creative Albuquerque blogger, Jeanne Washburn.
- To Amherst OH and the home of talented tea loving Renaissance Woman and Mantel and Table reader, Valerie.
- A Stop in Ooltewah, TN over the Memorial Day Weekend to visit Lilly, a nursing professor and fellow tea lover.
- A lovely tour of Paducah KY with fabulous cook, writer, and food & lifestyle blogger Leslie Watkins.
Stop #6 ~ Visiting with Tracie in Lovely Montz, Louisiana
After her stop in Kentucky, Rosie flew 549 miles mostly south and a little west to Montz, LA. Her host Tracie lives near the great Mississippi River, and was happy to share her views, her home, and her afternoon tea with our traveler.
I’ll put Tracie’s descriptions above each of her lovey photos, then give you you my own two cents afterwards. Feel free to jump in with any questions, comments, or observations. I’ll watch the Comments section below!
Capricious Summer Weather in Louisiana This Year
It’s been a very rainy summer in S LA. We usually get one shower a day but this summer we have gotten several showers a day.
I went to New Orleans (which is pretty near Tracie’s home) when I was a teenager. That was a few years ago now, but I still remember the wet heat! I loved it so much, I kept going in and out all the time just to feel the difference. My hosts had to remind me that that wasn’t such a great thing for the air conditioning!
Doesn’t her yard look gorgeous though, with the beautiful trees, flowers, and Louisiana rain? I can almost feel that warm wet air again just from the photo. Tessa Rose looks cozy and dry, and ready for a delicious looking treat too!
In The Kitchen
On my kitchen window sill to meet my new cactus
One of the things I find particularly cool about TR’s travels, is all the lovely treasures her hosts introduce her to. In this case, Tracie shares her love of cacti. This one looks pretty and healthy, and the juxtaposition of the dry desert plants with the rain outside is even cooler.
Looks like TR is enjoying the meeting too!
The Louisiana Path Less Taken
On an old walkway in my yard
Don’t you just love this brick path?! It’s so enticing! I just want to skip down it like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and see where it goes!
It’s also a perfect background, photographically, for Tessa Rose and her beautiful plate of peaches too.
Relaxing in the Garden
My comfortable yellow swing
After all that skipping and exploring, Tessa Rose is happy to snuggle up on the garden swing and relax for a while. I’d love sitting out there with her and Tracie and having a cup of tea, just swinging gently and enjoying the view.
Another thing I remember about Louisiana was how different the grass was. This photo of Tracie’s beautiful lawn makes me think of how the Louisiana grass felt under my feet. It was very springy, unlike our soft PNW Fescue and Rye grasses that just flatten out whenever you step on them. I don’t know what kind of grassTracie has, but it looks like a lot more fun!
New Orleans Louisiana Fair Grounds Race Track
On my front porch to meet my new hat to wear to watch the horses race at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans.
Oh my gosh – I love this photo on so many levels! First, it’s just pretty, isn’t it? The colors. The composition. The sense that someone’s just about to put the hat on! And the hat itself is darling. It matches TR perfectly!
How fun to have a new hat to go to the races! I did a little Google searching, and came up with this Wikipedia entry on the New Orleans Louisiana Fair Grounds Race Course.
It sounds like so much fun – right out of My Fair Lady!
The Bonnet Carre’ Spillway
At the Bonnet Carre’ Spillway in Montz LA to watch the ships go by.
Another gorgeous and fun photo of our Traveling Teacup having a little relaxing tea time out in nature! Tracie says that’s fresh honey. And look at that little teapot-topped spoon – is that not the cutest?! The tray is perfect for this outing too.
The spillway itself is fascinating! I wasn’t just positive what a “spillway” was, so I did a little research and found another great Wikipedia entry:
The Bonnet Carré Spillway/ˈbɒniː ˈkɛriː/ is a flood control operation in the Lower Mississippi Valley. Located in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana – about 12 miles (19 km) west of New Orleans – it allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Pontchartrain and thence into the Gulf of Mexico. The spillway was constructed between 1929 and 1931 following the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and has been designated as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

If you wait long enough you will see more.
Ships, that is.
I love watching ships, and I’m know Tracie and TR had a wonderful time! I so wish I could have joined them. But second best is seeing the pictures and sharing their lovely visit in Louisiana!

Yay TR – a visit to Louisianna! I’ve never been there but it looks beautiful – like every single place she has been so far! And the rain – yes please!!! We are so dry here and its not helping the forest fires in B.C. I was reading all the comments, and Leslie’s in particular – how cool that she could be a magazine feature. And like Chas says, I’d like to be in a box with her as she travels – what fun that would be! Thanks to you and Tracie for sharing!
Barbara Leone says
Hi Kim! Crossing our fingers for rain up there and sending safe thoughts to everyone affected by the fires. I loved this Louisiana visit. Tracie was a lovely host! Sure wish we cold have a Traveling Teacup host reunion someday – wouldn’t it be fun to meet everyone in person!? Hope you have a lovely weekend!
Leslie Watkins says
Oh, how I love that traveling teacup! She made such an impression in Paducah, Barbara, that she is the feature of my next Vue magazine article out next week! I’ll have to send you it to you when released. The publisher is now in love with her, too! Happy Tuesday, friend!

Ha! I should have known! You’ve lived EVERYWHERE!! 😉
Chas Greener says
Always fun to read her adventures. If only we could be in a box and travel as easily to so many places. Amazing pictures as always. Hugs friend.
Barbara Leone says
I know – I was just telling my husband last night that if I suddenly became independently wealthy, I’d spend a year retracing TR’s steps! Then I could come visit you! 😉 Happy Tuesday my friend!
