Wow – how about this gorgeous gold teacup!? It was a gift from my sweet cousin, who was moving.
She knew I love teacups, so asked if I wanted a few of her collection that she wasn’t taking to the new house. Of course, I took her up on her generous offer!
I just love this beautiful rich gold teacup! The glaze is so luxurious. I’ve never seen a cup like this before, have you? I feel like royalty when I use it!
A Gold Teacup on a Snowy Day
Like many of you, we had a big snow and ice storm a while ago. (Not as big or as devastating as some places though. My heart goes out to all the people who were, and still are being affected!)
Never one to ignore a snow day, I spent most of it cozied up with a good book and a cup of tea.
And what a cup to drink tea from! Not only is the glaze beautiful, it feels super thick and glossy. Can you imagine what a whole table of this pattern would be like?
Imagine a Gold Teacup Dinner Table
That’s what I thought of when I got this cup out – not just one teacup, but a whole dinner table set with this gorgeous gold china.
A white tablecloth, pale flowers, flickering candlelight. Especially with the snow outside, it would be so warm, elegant, and regal.
But from all I can find out, Grimwades only produced the Golden Age pattern as a tea set. I couldn’t find any dinner ware out there at all.
So I’m going to concentrate on teacups. I’d be so happy to find more of these and maybe work up to a whole tea set some day!
In the meantime, I sure enjoyed snuggling up with my gold teacup and my Agatha Christie mystery! (This particular book is one of my favorites, Death in a White Tie.)
Manufacturer’s Info
Isn’t the ribbed design is so lovely? It looks Art Deco, doesn’t it? In fact, I read that it’s often mixed up with a quite older pattern that really is from the Art Deco period.
The manufacturer of this gorgeous teacup is Grimwades Royal Winton, and the pattern is called the ‘Golden Age.’ Not hard to see why, right? The sources I read date it from the 50’s or 60’s.
The undersides of both the saucer and the teacup have a ton of crazing. That’s those little crack lines in the glaze.
The gold part is fine though, so still ok to use for food. And tea!
If you want more info on the manufacturers of this lovely gold teacup, check out the Royal Winton Summertime Teacup post. Those teacup pictures were taken in the snow too! I must have some psychic winter connection with Royal Winton or something … !
Gold Teacup Behind the Scenes
There’s not really much going on behind the scenes on this one. I basically put all my stuff on an old tray and took it out to the table by the French doors. That’s where I got the best view of the snow!
I messed around with the vignette for a while, (the bright gold spoon didn’t really work,) then added the actual tea from my little white creamer. I’d had it steeping right along as I was doing the first round of photos.
I love this tea – it smells just like roses and violets. And it makes the richest infusion that tastes just like roses and violets! The bags are silky little triangular pillows filled with beautiful dried flowers. And look at that ruby color! Lovely and delicious!
This is the tea I used for the gold teacup photo shoot. The canister kind of tipped over there, in the behind the scenes photo above. But here it is, standing up, below, and you can see the pretty little teabag too.)
It’s from Fortnum and Mason, and you can get it at Amazon. Rose and Violet Infusion. Mmm – just describing it to you made me want another cup – be right back!
There. Now let’s do a little teacup shopping!

Myrna says
If you have a gold teacup, you have everything ! Very pretty and outstanding gift. I am curious about the gold mark that looks like a dash on the bottom of the cup. I have seen them before, do they have a meaning ? Someone would think it’s just a mistake, but I don’t think so.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Myrna – I don’t think so either! My guess is it’s a painter’s mark or something along those lines. I’ll do a little more research and report back if I learn anything! Thanks for asking the question!
Laural says

It’s funny – Royal Winton/ Grimwades is so known for crazing.
And modern companies – like American Atelier – same. It always crazes.
That is a beautiful teacup. I can’t see solid gold shiny sets without putting it in a Christmas setting. That would look so pretty housing Christmas decorated sugar cubes on a Christmas tea table – or a tiny red poinsettia, or Christmas white red and green candies (like M & Ms) or how about cute tiny little Christmas homemade soaps for a guest bath with a spray of cut evergreen stuck in it?
It is a beautiful teacup set, and very thoughtful of your cousin.
Barbara Leone says
Oh Michele – those are all fabulous ideas! I know where I’d get the soaps too! My husband loves your daughter’s “Heavenly” scent! I love the idea of a tiny poinsettia in it too! So many ideas you have – I’m going to call you up next time I get stuck! 🙂 Thanks so much for popping over. Hope you have a great week!

Aw thank you Jeanne – what a sweet thing to say! I hope you had a nice cozy snow day like I did, and not one of those awful scary and expensive snow days! Here’s to better weather ahead, and Happy Tuesday!

Sean K. says
Lovely, charming gift. Do you know where it was purchased?
Barbara Leone says
Hi Sean! I don’t unfortunately. I think it had been in the family a while. But you could try Replacements Ltd – they have a ton of beautiful china, and if they don’t have what you want, they can look for it and let you know. I found something similar at this link: https://www.replacements.com/china-royal-winton-golden-age/c/117306
Good luck, and let me know if you come up with it!

How fun for you to have a snow day Barbara! Losing power…not so fun but cozying up to a fire with your beautiful cup is “My cup of tea”. Personally, I’m totally over the snow at this point, we have had way more than normal and I’m ready to move on to warmer days and daffodils 🙂
Barbara Leone says
Ha – I’m with you Denise – daffodils can’t come soon enough for me! Happy Tuesday!
Cindy says
This cup is stunning and I can imagine how pretty a table would be set with these teacups.
I have never seen anything like it before.
We had more snow yesterday and then in a few days unseasonably warm. The weather is nuts.
Cindy
Barbara Leone says
Hi Cindy – isn’t it nuts this year? I really like a snow day, but overall, I’m ready for spring! So glad you stopped by – Happy Tuesday!
