I’ve been really liking blue and white these days, so how about a lovely blue and white tablescape?
White Flowers in a Blue Vase
This particular blue and white tablescape started with the flowers. My wonderful husband brings home flowers almost every time he goes to the grocery store. (Which is often, as I don’t really like to shop too much!)
The other day, he brought me these beautiful white alstroemeria, and I put them in this blue vase. They looked so lovely together, that they inspired this tablescape.
Table For One
Even when I’m on my own, I love setting a nice table – it feels like such an indulgence! (Here’s another table for one I set for a cooler day!) On this day, the front porch was a perfect place for a little blue and white tablescape just for me!
Since our back yard is all torn up, we’ve been spending a lot of time on the porch lately. Our little round table and patio chairs live out here now, which is really convenient.
I just cozied up this corner a little bit, and had a wonderful space for my blue and white tablescape. The large throw pillows look good out here, I thought, plus they’re so comfy!
How I Made the Blue and White Tablescape
I didn’t feel like a full-on formal table, so I just put a napkin down as a sort of tablecloth. I set the flowers off to the side a bit so I’d have room.
For the place setting, I started off with my fancy silver chargers. Since I was going for a blue and white tablescape, I used a deep blue dinner plate.
On top of that, I put a basic white salad plate.
I got this lovely deep cobalt blue glass from a dear friend, and this is its maiden voyage. Doesn’t it look great on the plate stack?
It’s a perfect holder for the napkin too!
Don’t You Love a Good Paper Napkin?
Which brings us to one of my favorite paper napkins. I love these! They’re big and very strong for paper. And they’re so pretty! They work perfectly for my blue and white tablescape.
As Always, Crystal and Silver
It seems that almost every time I’m dining on my own, I use my crystal champagne glasses. Obviously, they’re favorites. When I was little I thought they were so elegant and ladylike, and I guess I just never grew out of that!
My Rose Point silver flatware is another favorite.
Blue Votives for the Blue and White Tablescape
My husband brought these blue votive candle holders into our household.
I don’t think I had anything blue at that time, so these were particularly special. We’ve had them on our little shelf all these years. I think they were happy to get outside and grace the blue and white tablescape.
I love candles flickering on the table. Even in the daylight, they’re elegant and romantic!
A Book At The Table
When you’re eating with other people it is of course, very rude to have a book at the table! But when you’re eating alone …
… you can do anything you want! (I love being a grown up, don’t you?!)
One of my favorite things in the whole world is to sit at a lovely table, have a great meal, and read a good book.
I was happy that in this case, the color of my book matched my table!
This book is a classic – The Year In Bloom – about gardening in the PNW. It was one of my first gardening books, and still inspires me after all these years.
So I think that about covers my blue and white tablescape! Let me know what you think – I love to hear from you in the Comments.
Thanks so much for sharing my blue and white table on the porch!

There is something so special about blue glass and china. Our new GW finally opened and I passed up two sets of blue tumblers and regretted it. Went back the next day and found a set of six glasses in two sizes. They were made in France. Earlier I found one Haviland teacup that was so delicate it was almost translucent. Doing the happy dance. Two wins- got to go thrifting and found treasures.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Myrna! Oooh a new Good Will!! Isn’t it amazing what you can find? And a Haviland teacup, no less! So glad you like the blue and white – I need to use that combination more often. Hope you have a lovely week!

Barbara, your blue and white table for one is absolutely gorgeous. I don’t tend to fuss when dining alone – you bring it to a totally new level.
I think cobalt blue is a stunning color. I used to have blue but sold it years ago when I had a lot of patriotic holiday tablescape things. You sure make me wish I hadn’t. I forgot how much I love it on a table.
And you are so right about flowers- they do truly grace a table perfectly.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Michele! I love that blue too – and I’ve always loved setting a table for just me – it feels so secretly fun and elegant like the Secret Garden! 😉 Hope you have a lovely weekend my friend! ♥
Kim says
Barbara, what a lovely table for one you have designed. The flowers are gorgeous and I love love love the cobalt blue – what a magnificent color it is. With the white, it is always elegant. As I write this, I’m wondering about cobalt blue with mustard yellow – I know that sounds totally weird but you have inspired me to think about this some more. Thanks for the inspiration. I also love those chargers!
Barbara Leone says
Kim! I think the cobalt and mustard would be gorgeous! You should definitely do that and show us the photos! 🙂 In the meantime, hope you’re getting the lovely sun we’re getting! Happy Friday!
