Welcome to the second in our silver and gold place setting series – the Red Rose Tablescape! If you recall, last week I promised you another table – exactly like the last one – except for the flowers and candles? Well here it is!
The Supporting Cast
Remember, the game is that the place setting is EXACTLY the same as last week’s table.
The setting itself is heavy on the silver. Only the decoration on the dinner and salad plates is gold.
We have some reasonably heavy silver flatware.
And as always, the crystal and glass add sparkle without color, so the roses take center stage.
Warming It Up
Since the place setting is mostly silver, I added gold candlesticks along with the deep red roses to warm up the tone of the table.
By switching last week’s lovely pink roses for these stunning red ones, we get a totally different look! Where that one was playful and bright, this red rose tablescape is much warmer, more sophisticated, and formal.
There are several things that contribute to the new look.
One Arrangement For The Red Rose Tablescape
For instance, one central arrangement is classic. Last time, we had two long bowls, which gives a more casual look. Since we’re going for warm and elegant, we want to keep things simple, and not add many distractions.
A Single Type & Color of Flower
By using only one kind and color of flower, you create more formality. There’s one place for your eyes to rest, and you can appreciate the beauty of your chosen flower all by itself.
No Extra Filler or Greenery
In the same vein, use just the flower stems and some of the leaves. No extra greenery or filler to detract from the simple elegance. In the case of our red rose tablescape, I left the leaves on the garden roses, and that’s all the greenery we need.
A Tall-ish Centerpiece For The Red Rose Tablescape
Of course you don’t want the centerpiece so tall that you can’t see around it. But where last week’s low arrangements were casual and playful, something taller is more stately.
Our 16 – 18″ arrangement gives this red rose tablescape its gracious height, and also adds shape to the setting.
Cut Glass Vase
Staying with our simple elegance theme, a clear vase keeps the silver and gold concept intact. And a crystal or cut glass vase adds sparkle (which of course I always vote for!) without adding any distraction.
Tall Candlesticks
The other thing that changes the character from last week, is the tall, slender brass candlesticks and tapers.
Like the flower arrangement, taller is more stately.
You’ll notice I switched from last week’s silver candlesticks, to gold. That richer tone really warms things up, and takes the setting from playful to sophisticated.

Barbara, I’m not sure how I missed the second table in your series, but the red roses are stunning! And you’re right – just changing out the flowers and the candle holders gives a whole new feeling to the table.
