Don’t you just love a Spa Day? Whenever I’m a bit worn out and need a little downtime, a spa day is one of my very favorite retreats. The uninterrupted quiet, the peace, the pampering – just for me. A spa day is the best!
(Or if a whole day isn’t an option, I have a spa night. Even just an uninterrupted evening is wonderful.)
I love to go to an actual spa, but sometimes that’s just not practical for one reason or another. And that’s why I have a Do It Yourself Plan B, which involves the items below.
If you want to make your own spa day basket with these items, I’ll link to them as we go along. I’ll also put them all at the bottom of the post. Some of the links are from affiliates, which means if you click on a link and buy something, I get a small commission with no extra cost to you. It’s a Win-Win, and helps cover the cost of publishing Mantel and Table. (You can read the whole disclosure policy here.) Thanks so much for shopping with me!
And now without further ado, here’s my Spa Day Plan B Do It Yourself Guide.
A Quiet Place for Your Spa Day
First you need somewhere you won’t be interrupted. Preferably somewhere with a sink and bathtub. And a comfy place to sit while you’re waiting for your bath to fill, etc. I’ve run the whole spectrum of places – from luxury Bed & Breakfasts, to the Super 8 Motel, to the bathroom in my own home. Since all you really need is somewhere private, they’re all great.
Beautiful Flowers
No matter what place you choose, you can add a little beauty to your spa day with a lovely flower arrangement. And when you’re relaxing in the tub, clearing your mind, flowers are the perfect thing to look at. Kind of zen, you know?
Scented Candles
For calming, romantic ambiance on your spa day, there’s nothing like candlelight. If your candles have a lovely scent, that’s even better. And if they’re in a beautiful containers, that’s the best yet!
Like this one from Candlefish. This is one of my very favorites. It’s #9 from their Library, and it has the most divine fragrance! The company describes it as “marine notes, stone fruit, rose & moss.” Mmmmmmmm …
I I took this picture with the label showing so you could see it. But if you turn it around, you get a sleek beautiful golden bowl. Put it by your flowers and you have a lovely view.
Fluffy Towels
There’s nothing like luxurious fluffy towels to make you feel pampered. I save a few of my favorites just for spa days (or nights.) I have cream and white ones. They’re so so soft!
Play Some Music
I love some music with my spa day. You can put on something relaxing or invigorating or thoughtful – whatever you’re in the mood for.
Draw Your Bath
After you’ve gotten all your stuff together and turned on your tunes, it’s time to draw the bath. I have a pretty big tub, so it takes about 25 minutes to fill. Just the perfect amount of time for the next step.
Luxurious Facial Mask
Oh this mask! It’s so weird and wonderful! My Mary Kay lady turned me on to it, and it’s totally luxurious. Instead of a cream or mud or something, it’s like a gel between two face-shaped pieces of mesh. It has little cutouts for your eyes and mouth. And it feels like silk. Amazing! You leave it on for a relaxing 20 – 30 minutes. Then when you gently massage it in, your skin feels like silk too.
Bubbles in Your Bath
When the mask is done, it’s time for the piece de resistance – bubbles in your bath. I love these Rosewater froth balls with all my heart and soul! They are beautiful and fragrant and produce a wonderful foam. It’s almost mesmerizing to watch the bubbles come up and spread across the water like satin.
And if you have a spa tub, it gets even more magical. Turn on the jets, and the foam turns into the richest, most amazing bubbles you’ll ever see in your whole life – not kidding! This is like bathing in mountains of whipped cream. I’ve never seen such luxurious bubbles, and that’s covering a lot of ground, as I’m a bubble bath fanatic.
ANYway, take it from a friend – if you have the chance to put one of these in a whirlpool bath and hop in after it, do it!
Plus, the company that makes them is really cool – Pacha Soap Co.
Fabulous Chocolates
Now that you’re in the tub, and once you’re finished playing around with the bubble mountains for a minute, you can make your spa day even more perfect with some fabulous chocolates! (See – this just keeps getting better!)
These are Verdun Chocolates – some of my favorite chocolates on the planet. They’re not only beautifully wrapped, they’re also exceptionally creamy and delicious. The first time I went into their store in Portland’s Pearl District, I thought it was a jewelry store. It was that glamorous and gorgeous. I wasn’t disappointed that it turned out to be a chocolate shop.
Something Great to Read
I don’t know about you, but I love to read. Especially when I’m relaxing on my spa day. And it’s so nice to have some lovely photos to look at too. The English Home magazine is one of my very favorites of all the magazines I get. It totally celebrates my dream of living an elegant life in the countryside. I can not only daydream, but I can get good practical ideas for my own home too.
Bubbles in Your Glass
And last but not least, I love some bubbles with my bubbles! For your spa day, you could pick yourself up a little half bottle of Roederer Estate Brut – just for you. The winery describes it as “crisp and elegant with complex pear, spice and hazelnut flavors. It is fresh and lightly fruity with great finesse and depth of flavor.” That translates to a delicious sparkling wine to make your spa day complete.
So here’s to a Spa Day! To indulge in a relaxing retreat just for you. As they used to say in the commercials of my youth – You’re Worth It!

Really jealous. Sounds wonderful. What can go with a spa day and chocolate ? I love to listen to Govi’s Jacaranda. You can hear it on Vevo YouTube, click on music and put in search.
