Not only do we have a lovely white and gold teacup, but today marks the beginning of something new at Teacup Tuesday! Read on to find out all about it, starting – as usual – with our Instagram post.
Teacup Tuesday 21 April 2020
Happy Teacup Tuesday All! Today I’m sharing this white and gold family heirloom! Plus we have something new on the blog for Teacup Tuesday – a fun and beautiful Teacup How-To! Just click the link in my profile or visit MANTELandTABLE.com. Can’t wait to see you there!
Manufacturer’s Info
This white and gold teacup has a long and storied history! It’s from a collection that came down to me through my father’s family.
I’ve spent a lot of time searching, and I’ve never been able to find anything definitive on the manufacture of the set. As you can see, there’s no mark on the saucer.
The Paul Muller company started in 1912, and as the mark indicates, they made our teacup. But the decoration looks nothing like any of their patterns. Or any of the Hutschenreuther porcelain company’s patterns either. (Hutschenreuther bought Paul Muller in 1917, and continued to use the name until 1928.)
So pretty much the only thing we know for sure, is that our white and gold teacup is around 90 – 100 years old!
However, other pieces of my collection have different marks! So based on all my research to date, I’ve formed kind of a theory. I think maybe this teacup, saucer, and the other pieces in my collection, were imported as white ware.
It was common for shops to paint their own designs on imported pieces, and I’m betting that’s what happened here. If so, I sure do love what they painted!
White & Gold Teacup ~ Behind The Scenes
I may have mentioned this before, but I live in a city neighborhood with very small lots. It’s really hard to get photos in our yard that don’t include streets and sidewalks, people, cars, dogs, or the sides of neighbors’ garages.
But with selective bush positioning, I can usually manage to get something passable. You wouldn’t know it, but hidden by that rose bush are two houses, two cars, and a Winnebago!
What Can You Do With A Teacup?
And here’s the exciting new feature for Teacup Tuesday! What can you do with a teacup? Well of course, you can always drink tea.
Or you can drink coffee or water or juice or hot chocolate – or even champagne if you want! But every week in this section, we’ll talk about other things you can do with teacups!
This week, let’s talk about using them as vases for flowers.
For instance, look how pretty these three teacup vases look on an outdoor lunch table. Even though the teacup shapes and patterns are different, they’re the same color combination. And they look so pretty together.
They’re perfect for holding some low flowers, and make fun conversation pieces too! It’s not every day you get flowers arrangements in tea cups!
Three of them on a lunch table is just one way to use teacups as vases. You could group three of them on the mantel, or put one on a bathroom shelf. On the bedside table, kitchen counter, to admire at your desk. The teacup vase options are endless!
Try it out with your own teacups, or find some new favorites from the Mantel and Table shop!
