With Valentines Day right around the corner, I thought we’d have a romantic Wine Cellar Dinner for two!
As I might’ve mentioned before, it’s always fun to move the table somewhere different. Just to spark things up a bit. For this dinner, we’re moving to the wine cellar!
Romantic Wine Cellar Dinner
If you’ve been around a while, you may know that my husband is a serious wine lover. When I met him, I knew next to nothing – ok, nothing! – about wine at all. But after living with him for the last two decades, I now know a little more. Mostly I know what I like, and if I’m lucky, I can even remember a few producers and grape varieties!
And I’ve come to like some of them a lot. I might even go so far as to say I have some that I love! So, as wine has always been a special part of our special dinners, I thought a wine cellar dinner would be especially romantic.
Our Favorite Wine Glasses
When you have a good wine, you’ll want some good glasses. I know I’ve gone off a lot about how much we totally love our Riedel wine glasses, but I only do that because I totally love them!
If you ever get the chance to do a glass comparison, do it! Pour the same wine in a couple differently shaped glasses. Choose your first glass, swirl it around, inhale its lovely bouquet slowly, take a good sip. See what you smell and taste. Then try it with the next glass. I bet you’ll find something different in each one.
(There’s some discussion in the wine world about which shape to use for the wine that’s on our table this evening. I personally like the Bordeaux-shaped glass for this wine, so that’s the one I’m going with. Knowing about shapes is a good place to start, but never sacrifice your preference just in order to “do it right” by someone else’s standard.)
We often use different shapes at the table – one for me, one for my husband. Then we switch and compare during the evening. It makes for some fun discussions!

Tablescape Colors to Show Off the Wine
Our wine cellar is old. It’s just a corner of our 100+ year old basement, and hasn’t been fancied up in all that time. It always reminds me of a wine cave in France – it must be those ancient plaster walls.
But the ancient walls are a lovely backdrop for our wine cellar dinner, and gave me tablescape inspiration as well. To go with the walls, I used a textured silvery-white palette.
Then to highlight the deep color of the wine, I used red napkins and roses. The white with just a couple red accents really played up our star bottle.
Flowers & Candles for Romance
The title of this section is pretty self-explanatory, and you can bet I’m going to show you some flower and candle pictures!
They really did add romance to our wine cellar dinner.
A Really Nice Bottle from the Cellar ~ or the Store
And last but certainly not least, the star of our show – a favorite bottle from the cellar. If you don’t have a cellar, just bring home your favorite bottle from the store!
A nice wine adds so much to a dinner! As you savor your glass, you savor your evening a little more too.
Thanks so much for joining me at our wine cellar dinner! And Happy Valentine’s Day!

Okay, Barbara. So I know I have seen this post before, and I swear that it is one of my favorites, but how is it that I have not left a comment? I am utterly baffled. This is such a totally awesome idea and your wine cellar is so perfect for this table you have set. It is the epitome of romance! Your gorgeous silver in the plates, flatware, and candelabra and the glow of the candles looks stunning against the rustic plaster! And the red roses and red napkins speak so perfectly to the day. I hope that you two had a fabulous dinner at this gorgeous table. Its wow!

Haha – that happens to me all the time – I read the post, then I read it again, and I think of what I’ll put in the comments when I get done the second time, then something calls me away and the comment never gets posted! Ahhh – the busy life! 🤣 I’m glad you like it though – that’s the important thing! And yes, we did have a lovely dinner. 💗 Thanks so much for stopping over my friend!
