This pink and gold teacup has a secret story to tell! And I can’t wait to share it! So let’s dive in, as always, with the original Instagram post.
Teacup Tuesday 11 February 2020
Happy Teacup Tuesday Everyone! Isn’t this a lovely cup and saucer? It was another recent find at the Goodwill, and I just love its dainty pattern! I couldn’t find out anything about who made it, but I did find a secret story! Come on over to the blog for all the details. As always, tap my profile link or visit MANTELandTABLE.com.
Extra Pink & Gold Teacup Tidbits
This cup made me think of a springtime garden. You know those first couple of warm days? You can smell the first flowers – in my case daphne and plum blossoms. And everything is pink and white and still a little dewy.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to have our tea on a white brick patio surrounded by the flowers? I would have white wicker furniture with fabric in the pattern of this pink and gold teacup. Maybe some slightly darker pink accent pillows, and of course, our tea table laid out with this lovely china.
Manufacturer’s Info
And now, here’s the secret! Look what’s written on the bottom of the saucer! I can only imagine who Barbara and Beryl Berg were, but I bet Beryl was very happy to get such a beautiful gift.
As I’m sure you can guess, I’ve already come up with several scenarios as to who the Bergs were and the story behind the teacup. Maybe Beryl was a bride, and Barbara her grandmother. Maybe Barbara was a daughter adding to her mother Beryl’s collection. Or maybe Beryl was a young girl getting her first teacup from her Aunt Barbara. The possibilities are endless!
Also, I thought the name Beryl was really pretty, and you don’t hear it around much. So I did a little research, and it’s very interesting. Click HERE if you’re interested too.
I found out about Beryl, however I couldn’t find a single thing about this backstamp! As you can see, there’s no manufacturer’s name, or any real distinguishing features. Lots of brands used a similar crown. I scanned practically the entire internet looking for this pink and gold teacup pattern until my eyes wiggled, but didn’t find it anywhere. So if you have any insight, do let me know!
Pink and White Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes
I shot these pink and gold teacup photos as I was taking down the table for my Valentines Brunch post. So I just used the elements that were already there. As you can see in the photo above, I taped a length of voile to the window frame for a little filtered light.
I thought it looked romantic to wrap the excess around the cup. Plus, I thought the lace tablecloth might have been something Barbara and Beryl might have used!
I hope you enjoyed this lovely pink and gold teacup, and its hidden story! I’m always so thrilled to find pieces like this that remind us how we’re all connected through the things we love!

Dear Barbara,
Your new tea cup is adorable. And so much fun to find one that has an inscription and a history,
I am dreaming that it was given after death or in her later years by a dear Aunt to a favorite niece. I love to give things to friends and nieces.
Sometimes we need to clean out clutter but often we have something that is admired by a friend and we wish to gift it as a token of that friendship and love.
Recently during this horrible shutdown, my dear friend’s sister passed and there was a virtual funeral. So, I put together a sympathy package for Phyllis, my friend, and dropped it off at a distance at her house. I put in a tea towel with a cardinal to remember her sister. And cookies, chocolate, a box of Earl Grey tea, and a precious Haviland tea cup. It was a very modern ribbon pattern with shades of blue and gold. Now, I wish that I had signed the bottom.
I find that I really treasure the tea cups which were given to me, especially if that person is no longer with us. My sister in law had a fantastic demitasse collection which was displayed on her dining room wall. I received several from her which I truly love and are now in my secretary with other treasures.
Enjoy your beautiful pink and gold teacup and think of Barbara and Beryl having tea together years ago.
