Rosenthal Teacup, Pink Flowers & Valentines

Happy month of February my friends – we’re celebrating with a lovely Rosenthal teacup, and Valentines flowers! As always, let’s start with the Instagram post.

Teacup Tuesday 04 February 2020

Rosenthal teacup and saucer

Valentines Day is coming! I’m totally in the mood, so this month we’re having lots of pink and red for our Teacup Tuesdays! This delicate cup was a recent Good Will find, and I’m just in love with it! Come on over to the blog – I’ve got more pictures and more info for teacup lovers of all varieties! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Extra Rosenthal Teacup Tidbits

China flowered cup and saucer

While I was perusing the china shelves at Good Will the other day, this lovely Rosenthal teacup caught my eye. It reminded me so much of the bedroom I used to have as a kid. My mom had decorated it for me, and it was a little girly girl’s dream of pink, red, and white. I totally loved it!

This cup is much more subdued than my bedroom was, but maybe this is the grownup version. In any case, decorating a bedroom sprang to mind the second I saw it! Just think of all the lovely pale pinks and soft creams you could have in a luxurious bedroom suite.

I would start with the palest cream walls, maybe with some white molding. Light light pink sheers at the windows. A white four poster with a lush velvet comforter in the faded flower pattern of our Rosenthal teacup. Lots of pink pillows, and we could add some deep red ones at Valentine’s!

I’d have a white brick fireplace and deep cushy chairs in front of the fire, all done in white and cream. It’s the pillows that would have the Rosenthal teacup pattern this time. A white fur rug, and gold metal and glass tables. What a perfect place to sip tea and dream dreams!

Manufacturer’s Info

There’s something I love about the history of our Rosenthal teacup. It’s such a sweet story. It started out with Philipp Rosenthal and his wife Maria in Germany in 1884. Philipp bought whiteware from a prominent German maker, and Maria painted all the patterns on them by hand. They sold their lovely china door to door!

Within seven years, Philipp had started a factory in Bohemia, making his own whiteware. The business grew until they had over 5000 employees in ten countries.

Then in 1935, because of the political sentiment and nationalism that was brewing at the time, Rosenthal was forced out of his company and exiled. He died soon after, and his family moved west. But after the war, Philip Jr came back to Germany to reclaim his family’s business! It took him more than five years to do it, but eventually the Rosenthal China Company belonged again to the Rosenthals. Click here for more info.

From what I could gather, the markings seem to indicate that our Rosenthal teacup was made between 1923 and 1933. Also, I think Donatello is a cup shape rather than a pattern. But if you have any info on that, do let me know!

Rosenthal Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes

Teacup photo shoot

I set up my white background on the front porch again, although I’m going to have to get something taller to put it on. Making old lady noises when I have to get up and down to take the pictures is not very sophisticated!

I took a candle out originally, but ended up not using it.

But in the end, I poured myself a cup of tea! I sat out and enjoyed the cloudy rainy weather from the comfort of my dry front porch. And I dreamed of a luxurious feminine master suite based on my lovely Rosenthal teacup!

What a lovely commentary. I can see the room you described. One tiny flower can trigger long ago memories. Love the photo vignette. Wish my floral photos had looked as well today. Thanks for the Rosenthal history.

Myrna you’re so sweet! I’m glad you like the history – it just fascinates me! 🙂 I didn’t know you’re a photographer – do you have a site where I can see your work? Happy Wednesday in the meantime! ❤️

I am not a photographer. I like to take photos of the wreaths and floral arrangements I make before I sell them. Eventually I will sell them online along with my gift boxes. Love making vignettes, so it’s great to see around the photo you end up with online. It’s easier for me to take photos outside so Cirque du Soleil with cats don’t crash the event.

Hi Barbara thinking about Valentine’s day too and lovely pink and cream bedrooms! Are the pink flowers carnations? The camera loves them. Thanks for all the teacup Tuesdays! Lauralxo
