Welcome to this week’s Teacup Tuesday installment – a delicately shaped, pretty yellow cup from Rosina China! Here’s the original Instagram post on this beauty!
Teacup Tuesday 14 January 2020
On this wintry Teacup Tuesday, we ask the question, What’s better on a cold day than a cozy fire and a cup of tea? And the answer of course, must be “Nothing!” (Unless you have chocolates with your tea!) And especially if you use this beautiful Rosina China cup that I won from the lovely and generous Lory @designthusiasm ‘s blog giveaway last year! Come on over to MANTELandTABLE.com for all the fun and informative details. Just click the link in my profile for a visit.

Now this might be one of the sillier things that a teacup has reminded me of. But I thought of an ice skating rink! Not that you’d decorate one, mind you. But I imagined – wait for it – sitting by a nice cozy fire and watching other people skate!
I’d be snuggly and warm by the fire, with my chamomile tea in our Rosina China teacup. And let’s change rink to lake, so the scene could look like something Norman Rockwell would have painted.
I’d have a little house on the bluff, looking out onto the ice. Big, multi-paned windows and white walls. Pale peach, yellow, and pink cushions, some music, and lots of flowers. And of course, a lovely fire.
Manufacturer’s Info
As you could probably guess, our Rosina china teacup was made by the Rosina China Company, Ltd. According to the backstamp, they made ours after 1952. (Most sales websites list it as hailing from the 1960s.) Besides our pale yellow, there were three other colors in this series – pale pink, blue, and green. All four colors had the same flower pattern in the center.
The bit of company info I got from my go-to pottery history site, thepotteries.org, is as follows.
Back in 1880, George Warrilow & James Cope founded a company called – aptly – Warrilow & Cope. That partnership only lasted seven years, and when it ended, Warrilow moved on. He became the first tenant of The Queens pottery, and formed Warrilow & Sons. (With his three sons, natch – Harry, a joiner; George, a potter; and Fred, a china decorator.) This is when they started using the trade name Rosina.
Over the next decade or so, first Warrilow, then one brother then another left the business. The eldest, Harry, continued to run the company on his own.
I’m not sure if he was still in charge when Warrilow & Sons closed up shop in 1940. But in 1941, Rosina China Co Ltd was formed, working out of the same Queens Pottery. And twenty or so years later, our teacup was born!
Rosina China Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes
I took these photos right after I took the ones for this post, and used the same table. I thought if I was going to have tea after my fireside lunch, I would use my lovely Rosina china.
Before I poured my tea, I set the saucer up so we could see the beautiful rose in the center. I still don’t have a stand, so I used my crystal swan again, which is usually handy, and very heavy! I stuck a little scotch tape on the tray to keep the saucer from sliding down. If you know it’s there, you can kind of see it between the bottom edge of the saucer, and the cup!
Thanks Mr Swan!
I hope you liked this lovely Rosina China teacup! And I hope if you’re in a cold place, you can stay nice and warm – fire or not!
