I’ve always wanted to make a white pumpkin flower arrangement! I think they’re so beautiful, and so fun! I’ve been inspired by several of my fellow bloggers, so I decided to finally go ahead and do it!
White Pumpkins
I had a medium sized pumpkin for the centerpiece, and two baby boos, one on either side. I love the big one, but the tiny ones are just so cute!
It’s super easy to make a pumpkin flower arrangement, and I’ve seen several great tutorials on them. Everybody has their own little tips and tricks. But basically, you open up the pumpkin, hollow out the inside, then put in something that holds water.
I actually put the water straight into the baby boos. Since they didn’t leak at all, I guess it worked!
But anyway, don’t you just love Trader Joe’s? That’s where I got my pumpkins, and my flowers. Pumpkins don’t last very long though. So if you want your white pumpkin flower arrangement to last all season, you’ll probably want to use a faux one that you can hollow out. (Or paint one of your kids’ plastic pumpkin treat buckets!)
Pumpkin Flower Arrangement Flowers
I bought red and salmon-orange roses, red alstroemeria, and seeded eucalyptus. And I can thank the landscaper at Trader Joe’s for a lovely surprise find!
You may remember from this post, that I learned about scavenging flowers from my mother. I learned it so well, that I often just happen to have a pair of flower clippers in my purse!
As I was loading my purchases into the car, I saw these lovely little bushes with the most glorious yellow foliage and red hips. There were several broken sprigs lying on the ground, that were barely still attached. I checked to make sure there would still be lots left, then clipped a couple for my pumpkin flower arrangement.
They were super prickly, so good thing I had my clippers. Thanks Trader Joe’s!
Table Runner
Since the flowers were so bright, I thought the rest of the table should be neutral. That way the pumpkin flower arrangement could take center stage.
Now by “neutral” of course, I mean white and gold! (If you’ve been around Mantel and Table more than about five minutes, you know that’s my very favorite color combination.)
A tablecloth felt too formal, so a lovely shawl did double duty as a runner instead. It had a really subtle fall-like texture. And of course, anything white can be bleached, so no worrying about accidental spillage.
Plates and Flatware
In keeping with the theme, I used all white and gold plates and flatware. I love that look on its own.
But one of the great things about having a collection of gold and white, is how versatile it is. You can add any color you want, and it still looks fabulous.
Napkin Rings
I think napkin rings tie any look together, so some pretty gold colored ones were perfect here.
Mine are made from spoon handles by a Portland artisan. If you’re ever in town on Saturday Market day, you should look him up! I’ve seen some silver versions online, but gold is hard to find. So I’ve linked a really beautiful alternative below.
Glasses for Water & Wine
As I always say, I love a little sparkle on the table! These are my go-to water glasses. Even though they’re crystal, they’re really heavy and durable. I use them all the time, and I think I’ve only broken one in over 20 years!
For my favorite wine glasses, I love this Bordeaux shape. The glasses of choice at our house are Riedels. They’ve researched the best shapes for different types of wines, and made the best glass for each type. I didn’t believe it at first, but it really does make a difference.
We have two or three of the main shapes and sizes, and those handle most of our wine needs. Plus, the looks is sleek and doesn’t ever get in the way of my decorating scheme!
Pumpkin Flower Arrangement Decorating Scheme
And now, here’s where we just get to look at a bunch of white pumpkin flower arrangement pictures, since that was basically my entire decorating scheme!
A couple extra baby boos on the buffet with some of the leftover flowers.
A closeup of the middle sized white pumpkin flower arrangement. Notice the scavenged yellow-tinged leaves and hip berries in the lower right.
Delicious & Beautiful Desserts
If you have a Fred Meyer near you, I can probably save my breath, as you already know about the bakery! Oh my gosh these were delicious! And pretty too! I set them out on the buffet just before we ate. So not only were they up to room temperature by dessert time, they looked great all through dinner!
I’m so glad I finally made some pumpkin flower arrangements! If you make some too, let me know in Comments – I’d love to hear what you think!

Barbara, What a gorgeous table! I like all the different shapes and textures. The white pumpkin sizes are perfect too. I also read what Margaret said above. Quite honestly, I am glad you clipped the broken branches. They cause stress on the plant and any breakage can allow for infestation or disease. You were actually doing the plant a favor. Trimming also encourages more growth too. As a master gardener, it is important for us to constantly provide trimming to growing plants. I feel sad that Margaret is upset over this, when there are bigger issues to invest your stress. Lovely post as usual!

Hi! So glad you liked it. Actually Margaret and I chatted a while back and totally understand each other, so that’s all good. I probably knew you were a Master Gardener, but now that I remember, I’m so not surprised! Your place is gorgeous, and as someone who tried gardening in AZ, I’m seriously impressed! Can’t wait to see you soon!

So, you can afford to do all this beautiful work and have a lovely tablescape, but you “clip” some bushes on someone else’s property (assume it was Trader Joe’s)? That makes absolutely no sense and totally runs your blog. I’ll not take a look at it gain and certainly hope I’ve got this wrong.
Barbara Leone says
Hi Margaret – Thank you for writing and for bringing this up. I know this is a long answer, but I felt you needed a complete one to so important a comment.
I joke about it quite a bit, but scavenging is actually a topic I feel strongly about and I shouldn’t have made so light of it without a very good explanation. I would never take anything from someone’s yard or a tended public garden without permission, and would never suggest anyone else do so. Un-kept civic areas or abandoned places, I feel differently about. I grant you, the parking lot at Trader Joe’s is a fuzzy area, and I should have asked before I clipped.
I do have one cardinal rule: Even from an un-kept or abandoned place, Never Take Too Much. (Which I define as changing the character, or taking the last few.) For instance, the bits I clipped from TJ’s were at the very back of the parking lot, and were partially broken and lying on the ground. But even then, I carefully checked the other nearby bushes to make sure I wasn’t changing the character of the area, and that there were lots of berries still visible for others to see and enjoy.
I hate to lose you as a reader, but I completely understand your feeling. Thank you for expressing your concerns, and take care!
