Oh Rosedale – what a fun and lovely teacup! Our pattern today conjures up stories of summer days and exploration in a gentle flower-filled world! We’ll start, as always, with today’s Instagram post.
Teacup Tuesday 27 AUG 2019
Happy Teacup Tuesday! Isn’t this a fun one? It’s Royal Albert’s “Rosedale,” yet another from my neighbor’s fabulous collection. The scene is so delicate and pretty. It reminds me of a park I went to once as a child. It was a very “grown up” park with no swings or anything (!) But I loved the beautiful gardens, gates to walk through, and swans to watch on the lake. But if you were just looking at the cup and didn’t see the lake part, it could be a garden at a lovely little cottage. So many possibilities! Pop over to the blog for more teacup info. Just click my profile link or visit MANTELandTABLE.com. Hope to see you there!
Teacup Tidbits
I love teacups that tell stories! As soon as I saw this one, a story popped into my head about a little girl finding herself in this beautiful garden.
Because it’s such a gorgeous expansive place, she runs and dances around on the lawn. But then she’s drawn to the gate, and the promise of a cozy cottage garden on the other side.
What gentle adventures our little heroine could have – picking flowers, feeding birds, talking to magic bunnies – before going home to tea. Such possibilities!
Rosedale Manufacturer’s Info
Our cup today is Royal Albert’s Rosedale pattern. It’s a handpainted beauty, with gold trim and raised red flowers. Because Royal Albert backstamps are very well documented, we know the date range. This “Crown China” mark was made between 1927 and 1935.
As was typical, the cup came in several different shapes. The name of our low, rounded shape with the handle sticking up is “Doris.”
Also as was typical, Royal Albert used the same name in the 60’s for a series. The series seems to bear no relation to our Rosedale – it was a completely different pattern, in a set of six different colors. For more Rosedale & Royal Albert info, click here.
Rosedale Behind the Scenes
I’m kind of on a gate kick recently, probably inspired by today’s cup! Our neighbors have two beautiful gates in their yard, and I got to photograph both of them! As you can see, this one is in the driveway (that’s our house on the right.)
I really liked the gate handle, and to get close enough, I had to use the little marble table again, plus the dictionary! I wanted to use the flowers later, so because I couldn’t cut the stems, I had to balance them on the gate latch.
It’s funny the things you have to go through to get the right picture, but it’s always so much fun! I hope you enjoyed our little gate-inspired ramble through the park today too!

I’m with you Barbara, I love a teacup to tell a story and I Love Yours. I don’t have any “story” china but I will be on the look out now! I thought of you yesterday as I was setting a table for a blog post…thinking to myself…I hope I’m doing this right – thinking back to the 1″ rule you blogged about. 🙂
