Garden Roses! They’re so beautiful and romantic. All those lush old-fashioned blooms. And their fragrances! Summer rose blooming season is probably one of my favorite times of the year.

You may remember, that last week I posted about Romantic Roses on the Mantel. Well this week, I’m doing another post about roses on the mantel – but with a VERY different look!

Where the last one was bright and delicate, this one is moody, soft, and lush. A perfect pairing with glowing evening candles.
Keeping it Easy

Also remember, when I did THIS POST a while back, about keeping your mantel simple and easy for summer? This is practically the exact same set up.
The vase, the mirror, the primary candle holders – all identical. Can’t get a whole lot easier than that, right?
Garden Roses in the Rain

If you grow garden roses, you know that some varieties don’t last very long when it rains on them! We had a bumper crop, and they were so beautiful – but the rain was coming!

I just couldn’t let them get ruined, so I ran out and cut most of the blooms. I barely made it back in before the downpour.
Lots of Vases

It turned out to be a lot of roses – lots more than what’s here, even. So I just started putting them in as many vases as I could find. And of course, a lot of them had to go on the mantel.

This distressed copper pitcher is a vase that I often use on my mantel. I’ve had it so long, I don’t even remember where it came from. But I love its beautiful coppery warmth. I clean it up with polish every now and then, but I like the patina just as much.

In fact I had so many garden roses, that I had arrangements left over! I put them all over the house, and still had two to go. So they ended up on the mantel, along with the pitcher.

I really like the variety that the different heights give. And the addition makes the arrangement even fuller, even though it’s really three separate vases.

Don’t you just love this tiny little ruby vase? It’s just the right size for holding one or two stems, and it’s so cute. The deeper color makes a tiny spot of darker interest that I like too.

It came in a set of three little vases, which also included the amber one you can see at the back of the mantel. These were a gift from my sister in law (aka SIL.) If you’ve been following for a while, you may be sensing a trend here. SIL knows me well, and a lot of my very favorite pieces are her lovely gifts!
Different Candles

It was just starting to get dark when I decided I had to save the garden roses! So after all the arranging was done, it was the perfect time for some candlelight.

The backbones of the mantel were the large candle holders that were already there, the ones on the right. And because I wanted to accentuate my candle sparkle, I switched out the silver pillar holders for gold, the ones on the left.

The final touch was lots of little mercury glass votives at irregular intervals. Plus, I love the all around glow of lights at different levels.

Doesn’t this view almost look like the flowers are spilling down and turning into candlelight? Ok maybe a little fanciful, there, but by this time, I was wallowing in garden roses and candles!
A Lovely Evening

As night set in, we turned off our lights and our screens, and just sat for a while. We listened to the rain, and watched the flicker of flames among the scented roses. Perfect!

Goodnight from the rose garden!

Your roses are just so gorgeous, and they just make a perfection decoration on the mantel. Unfortunately I’ve never been able to grow roses here in Florida. It can be done with constant plant food and care as I had a friend who grow beauties. It’s just won’t happen in my yard. Your roses and candles make the space so romantic!
Hi Carol – I do love roses! I’m impressed your friend can grow them in Florida. She must be very dedicated. If I lived there, I think I’d trade them for the beautiful flowers you grow – I so love your white and sweet-smelling varieties. 🌼Thanks so much for stopping over, and I hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Oh my gosh, Barbara! Your roses are just too gorgeous!
So glad you like them Marieza – we are blessed with beautiful ones here in the Rose City of Portland! 🙂 Thanks so much for popping over!
Lovely Barb!
So glad you like it Rachelle – those roses are out of control again this year! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and Happy Monday!
I am in love Barbara! Your summer roses are so gorgeous! I don’t know what is happening to my roses. They are not doing well this year.
SO glad you like them Kim! 💗 That’s too bad about yours, maybe they’re just having an off year. But you’d never know it from your gorgeous garden! 😉 Hope you have a lovely weekend my friend!
Your roses are beautiful. I have such a hard time cutting flowers from our garden but do the same when rain is expected. Such a good excuse to clip away. Mine do not look as lovely as yours though and sadly our fireplace has no mantel.🙁. The photos of the copper picture looks like a painting. Such a lovely, romantic look. Pray for rain!
Thanks so much Margo – how sweet of you! 💗 And yes, isn’t rain a good excuse? 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by. I’m so happy to have you here!
Beautiful roses Barbara. So glad you were able to save them from the rain! I love the Patina vase, so very pretty and looks perfect with the roses. I also love your walls, are they plaster? They have that old world appeal…just beautiful.
Hi Denise! Thanks so much! 💛 Yes the walls are plaster – I’ve been in the process of removing the old wallpaper for months now and we can’t decide what to do with the walls! We kind of like that old world look too, but it’s pretty messy … We’ll see! 😊
