This stunning Aynsley green and gold teacup was total inspiration for me! Here’s my original Instagram post to start us off.
Teacup Tuesday 7 MAY 2019
Oh my gosh is this week’s Teacup Tuesday offering fabulous or what?! Such a beautiful green, and I’ve never seen anything like the gold inside! This is Aynsley England bone china – another loan from my neighbor’s wonderful collection. And I love the clouds of lilacs. Wouldn’t these colors and textures make gorgeous fabric for throw pillows and drapes in a white spring living room? I’m totally daydreaming! 💚 Happy Tuesday Everyone!
Extra Teacup Tidbits
As I mentioned in my original post, this teacup flower combination brought a lovely warm-weather living room to mind! The room would have white walls and lots of floor to ceiling small-pane windows, and bright sunlight streaming in. The furniture would be white too, and light and summery. These muted lilac, wisteria, and green colors would make a beautiful fabric print, wouldn’t they? Perfect for some almost sheer curtains.
And just think of the gorgeous throw pillows you could have! The flower print, maybe a lilac or green toile, and several varieties of solid color pillows, all with gold trim. Maybe tassles! What fun to mix them on a sofa and chairs, or piled on the floor.
And of course there would be gold accents in the room. A glass coffee table with gold legs, gold tiebacks for the curtains, gold candle holders! And a couple crackle-gold patterned vases on the mantel, overflowing with lilacs and wisteria! A totally fresh and cool place to sip tea out of this gorgeous Aynsley green and gold teacup!
Manufacturer’s Info
It was made by Aynsley, a famous maker we’ve talked about before in this post. According to what I’ve found, this type of mark places its manufacture at about 1934. And for more general Aynsley info, go HERE.
I’m fascinated by the hand-written numbers and/or designs on the pieces, but haven’t been able to confirm what they mean yet. I imagine they’re the painter’s identification, or the batch number, or something. Although I’m going to keep researching, if you already know, please tell! Otherwise, when I find out, you’ll be the first to know!
Aynsley Green & Gold Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes
I really wanted to have this billowing bouquet of lilacs and wisteria in the picture! They were so beautiful and I knew they’d look great as a slightly out of focus background.
But as is often my problem, I was having trouble getting both the flowers and the cup in the same picture! The lilac arrangement was in a lovely tall black amethyst vase, which was beautiful, but not the color scheme I had in mind. So I needed to keep that out of the frame.
After trying (with poor results) to lower the flowers, I finally decided to raise the cup! So I took the big pillar candle off its holder and put the cup and saucer on it instead. That put them at the perfect height, and I was able to create this gorgeous Aynsley green and gold teacup and indulge my decorating daydreams all day!
