We have a beautiful Wedgwood Torbay Teacup for this Teacup Tuesday. And as usual, here’s the original Instagram post first.
Teacup Tuesday 02 JUL 2019
Hi All – It’s Teacup Tuesday again, and this week we have another beauty from my neighbor’s collection. Isn’t that raised pattern on the creamy white cup and saucer so gorgeous? This little demitasse gem gives me inspiration for a breakfast nook in a sunny bay window. Add a few peach daylilies and we’re set! Check out the blog for more indepth info on this one. Link is in my profile as always, or go to MantelAndTable.com. Thanks so much for joining me – hope you have a great day out there!
Extra Teacup Tidbits
As you know if you’ve been following for any length of time, I just love teacups! For whatever reason, they spark my decorating inspiration. (See this post for that whole story!) And this Wedgwood Torbay Green cup certainly does. It inspires a light and bright breakfast nook. Somewhere beautiful to have brunch on a lovely lazy morning!
Wouldn’t it be pretty to have a little round table sitting in a sunny bay window? It could have a semicircle bench with creamy white textured cushions. Maybe green pillows to lean back on. White – or maybe a very light, light green – walls with crown molding. And a print of the darling little scene on the saucer, in a lovely white frame.
Maybe a whole series of prints, including the other scenes that were part of this china pattern. Sheer white and green curtains at the windows, and a white vase of peach daylilies on the table. Makes me want to cozy up with waffles and mimosas right now!
Manufacturers Info
This is Wedgwood – arguably the most famous name in fine pottery. From my research, I figure this cup and saucer would have been made after 1940 when Wedgwood’s Barlaston factory was built. The pattern is still pretty available, so if you want to grab one for yourself, hop over to the shopping page when you’re done. Link is at the bottom as usual.
Our variety is called Patrician Torbay Green. As I mentioned, the set included several different scenes. Most of them were of landscapes with towers or columns. Probably inspired by the Etruscian pottery that was popular at the time.
It looks like there were a lot of different variations of the basic Patrician pattern. The plain creamy white with the lovely raised design appears to have been the original. Then colors and designs were added in the middle or around the edges for other china patterns, like our Torbay.

Wedgwood Torbay Teacup ~ Behind the Scenes
I thought this cup and saucer would look good up against our house, which is a sage green stucco. It has lots of texture, which of course I also like! Trying to keep the saucer propped up on the smooth marble table was a challenge. And though I sort of solved the problem with some scotch tape, it kept slipping down! So some of the pictures have it looking a little “relaxed.”
I wedged the table in between the deck and the tomato patch. You can see the copper cap of the raised bed on one side (above) and the windowsill on the other (below!)
I started out with two gorgeous peach daylilies. But at one point, one of them fell off the back of the table and landed face first on the concrete! Oh no! So that flower was history, and I continued on with just one. But our gorgeous Wedgwood Torbay Green cup is so pretty, it didn’t even need the extra flower!
