Blush and Gold! Without question, one of my favorite color combinations. They’re both so elegant – and together, they’re extra beautiful.
I love blush as a more casual alternative to pure white. Just the little hint of color it introduces, brings the formal factor down a notch or two. (If you want to check out true formality though, visit this post!)
So, let’s talk about how to keep that lovely blush and gold elegance without being fussy or too formal.
Placemats vs Tablecloth
A lovely pristine white tablecloth is a wondrous thing! But sometimes you want a little less formality. In my table setting world, using placemats does the trick. When you want to go for more casual elegance, a lovely fabric placemat like this damask one is perfect.
And a solid neutral with texture is the way I like to go. If you get too much pattern or color, you might lose your elegance in the quest for casual.
The matching napkins along with your placemats, is all you need. The table comes off blush and gold, but the linens are really the only blush items on it! (Besides the flowers, which I’m calling deep pink, and which we’ll discuss later on.)
I think that the reason placemats are more casual (while still being elegant, of course,) is that they show the table. If your guests can see a lot of the actual table surface, the setting feels more relaxed. Also maybe they won’t be as worried about spilling something, because tables are easier to clean than white linen!
So, I like to use placemats that are just large enough for the setting. That way there’s a lot of table showing between them.
Loosely Grouped Candles
Of course, I always add candles to any tablescape, and this one is no exception. For our elegant non-fussy table, low profile votives are just right. They’re not tall and stately like candelabra or other tapers, and their shortness gives them a cozier more relaxed feel.
And rather than putting them in a formal arrangement, scatter the candles in loose groupings on your table. You can see in the picture above, how we have two groups of three, but they’re not really organized. They aren’t symetrical or even laid out in the same way.
However the center decorations as a whole, are symetrical. A good balance of elegant and casual.
Plus, the gold mercury glass is lovely, and I always think it makes the candlelight flicker even more. There’s your balance of elegant and relaxed again.
Casual Flower Arrangements
Flower arrangements really set the tone of your table. So using these casual blowsy garden roses makes our elegant tablescape much more approachable.
You could also use wildflowers, or any varieties that have movement and flow.
In keeping with our blush and gold color scheme, I went with deep pink flowers for the arrangements. Using a deeper shade in the same color family, really brings out the lighter blush in the linens.
Because the rest of the table is essentially neutral, the roses become the focal point. When the guests come in the door, the first thing they notice is the beautiful flowers. An inviting, casually elegant table – just what we’re going for!
Blush and Gold Elegance
Now that we’ve discussed the casual, let’s look at the elegant! (Not that we have to look too far … !) Obviously, white and gold china is going to be elegant no matter what else is around!
And gold chargers and flatware totally add to it. They do more than hint at elegance – they’re the epitome of richness and luxury.
You can’t go wrong with crystal either. These lovely wine glasses and cut crystal water glasses add so much sparkle and sophistication.
So if you love this blush and gold combination as much as I do, give it a try. I’d love to hear about your elegant non-fussy table setting adventures, in the Comments below!
