This lovely Royal Worcester Teacup is our Teacup Tuesday offering this week. And as always, here’s the original Instagram post first.
Teacup Tuesday 27 NOV 2018
Well, it’s Teacup Tuesday once again my friends! This is another of my favorites from my Grandmother – I love the pink and green, and the colors against the white background feel so cozy. I hope you have a great day out there, and Happy Tuesday!
Extra Teacup Tidbits
I love this cup! I’ve had it for years and it just always reminds me of romance and flowers! I would love to decorate a girl’s bedroom in these shades. That lovely delicate teal green would be such a pretty accent, with lots of texture and soft colors. But since I don’t have any little girls around, maybe I’ll just do a space for myself!
Manufacturer’s Info
I was reading up on Royal Worcester, and the company had really a fascinating history. It was started by a Dr. Wall (and 14 financial partners,) in 1751 and changed hands many times. In addition, partners came and went, and name changes were frequent. It merged with Spode further along, and closed in 2009.
My Royal Worcester teacup and saucer have lots of markings on the undersides. The most obvious of course, is the manufacturer’s mark. I’m imagining that the curlicue around the center design incorporates some Ws in Dr. Wall’s honor. The crescent in the middle was one of the earliest marks, and the 51 in the middle is the year the company was founded. I wonder if the other numbers refer to the painters or pattern? Also, the marks changed often.
They used a date system off and on, as well. See the little star and dots under the logo? That particular configuration means that my cup and saucer were made in 1919!

Royal Worcester Teacup – Behind the Scenes
I knew exactly the vibe I wanted when I started photographing my Royal Worcester teacup. But I wasn’t sure how to get it! I wanted a neutral background with lots of texture, and of course, the beautiful flowers I’d gotten. I wandered around the house for quite a while, looking for a good background. Then, I noticed our bedspread. The creamy color and quilted texture were perfect!
I tried lots of different configurations. As you can see here, some of them were a little wonky! I didn’t realize the saucer was all askew in the picture above, until I was looking at it in the computer.
Even though I love the texture of the coverlet, the flower stems look kind of dopey in this one. But that’s what cropping is for!
Thanks for sharing today’s teacup!

Such a beautiful cup and precious memory of your grandmother. Interesting info about Royal Worcester too, how cool that your cup is from the early 1900s!

I know – it’s almost as old as our house – maybe someone who lived here had cups like it! 🙂 And the more I learn about teacups the more fascinated I get! I’m so glad you like them too. Thanks so much for being here Denise! ❤️
