Hi All! So for quite a while now, I’ve done a little weekly feature on Instagram called Teacup Tuesday. When I started it, I didn’t realize lots of other people did Teacup Tuesday too. But I was thrilled to find out there were so many fellow teacup lovers out there!
And it just occurred to me that maybe you, my loyal Mantel and Table readers, might enjoy them too.
So we’re going to have another day of Mantel and Table! Now in addition to our usual Wednesday posts, we’ll have Teacup Tuesday posts as well.
They’ll be bite-sized tidbits – a quick bit of fun and beauty to enjoy with your Tuesday morning tea (or coffee!) Plus, there will often be a little more info than I have room for on Instagram.
In addition, I’ve added a special section of beautiful teacups to my shopping page – Link Below. Most of the cups in my posts are vintage, but there are lots of similar or just plain gorgeous ones out there!
So grab your cup of tea, and make yourself comfortable for a few minutes! We’ll start off with the very first Teacup Tuesday I ever did. It was short and sweet!
Teacup Tuesday 23 Oct 2018
Welcome to Teacup Tuesday! My grandmother gave me my first tea cups when I was a child, and I’ve been collecting them ever since. I often base my decorating around one item or color scheme, so these little vignettes of teacups are kind of like idea boards. I’ll post one every Tuesday until I run out of pictures! 😊
There – wasn’t that fun? Now let’s have a little extra!
Extra Teacup Tidbits
This vignette made me think of an Art Deco dining room, maybe out of a Fred & Ginger movie! There would be a polished marble floor, mirrors on the walls, gold and silver chandeliers, crystal, and roses everywhere! And beautiful gold lame dresses to dance in after dinner, of course!
Manufacturer’s Info
This is a little demitasse pair. It’s obviously been loved, as the gold is worn off in several areas, and there are a couple tiny chips in the rim. The cup doesn’t have any markings on it, but the saucer has a sticker that says “Wales” Made in Japan. I’d never seen a sticker like this before – I wonder how it’s lasted so well all these years!
I read that the this china was imported by the New York Merchandise Co to sell under their own brand, Wales China. We don’t know who the Japanese manufacturers were, but apparently it was reasonably inexpensive. More manufacturing info HERE.
Behind the Scenes
At first, I laid this tray on the raised edge of our backyard deck, but it was awfully precarious! Plus I didn’t really want the wood in the picture.
So I moved it onto a little table that was at least not as wobbly, and prettier too. Because it was fall, there were leaves all over our yard. I thought they made a nice little bit of background in the cropped photo. It was funny how the rose stems stuck out over the edge! But I wanted to put the roses in a tall vase afterward, so I couldn’t cut them off. So I just cropped them out! Ah the magic of photo processing!

That is a very interesting cup and saucer. You don’t see a lot of Japanese pieces anymore. Did you ever try some sheer ribbon around the stems?

Hi Myrna – I never have tried that, but what a great idea! Sounds like you love teacups as much as I do. 🙂 I’m so glad you stopped by!
