Oh those peach colored flowers! I saw these as I walked into the store and couldn’t live another minute without them!
Visions of a peach and rust tinted mantel danced in my head as I hurried through my shopping as fast as possible. The minute I got home, I was looking for the perfect vase, and getting out the brass candlesticks!
I love fall, and all the pumpkins and leaves and Halloween decorating that comes with it! But I was really in the mood for something simple and elegant and pumpkin-less tonight.
Sometimes just a few well chosen items are really all you need. In this case, a gold framed mirror and the brass candlesticks were the only things on the mantel besides the peach flowers (and their vase of course.)
I started by deciding on that vase. I didn’t want clear glass this time because I didn’t want the flower stems to show – just those lovely peach toned blooms. This white china vase was just right. The raised flower pattern added some texture too. And the gold rim around the bottom tied in with my white, cream, and gold color scheme.
I love neutral with a little something else that lends a touch of color. Like these peach carnations and the just slightly darker baby roses. The rust mums added – again – some more texture.
For a bit of sparkle, I used these little spangly branches that we got on one of our travels a couple years ago. I love them because they’re so subtle and so shiny at the same time. They’re great for filler instead of greenery, since I was trying to keep the arrangement neutral.
My dad gave me this mirror when I was a teenager. He got the rose glass from a building that was being demolished in his neighborhood, and had it silvered and framed for me. I’ve always loved it, and I’ve taken it with me everywhere I’ve ever lived. (I think the college dorm may have been hardest on it!)
As you can see, it’s showing its years. In fact the whole upper left corner is actually gone! That’s why I put that spray of roses up there. But it just goes to show that you can make just about anything work! The rest of the frame is a little chippy, and the silver is coming off the glass, but that only makes me love it more.
My husband contributed most of the brass candlesticks to the household, and I picked up some others at a thrift shop. I love the different heights and styles – yet more texture and variety.
The concept for this mantel was peach elegance and simplicity. And speed. Besides being excited about doing the mantel, I wanted to get home and eat! It had been a long day and I was starving!
One of the things that makes it easy to decorate quickly is to have your stuff handy. I try to keep my pieces where I can get them, not packed in boxes or bins up in the attic, etc. It’s a little bit of an organizational challenge, especially as I keep adding things. But it really pays off. I got this mantel decorated in record time and got my dinner too!
As I was tidying up, I stuck a white pumpkin on the mantel just to get it out of the way for a minute. My husband goes “Hey, that looks good! Why don’t you take some pictures with pumpkins?” Of course my concept was no pumpkins, but I put a few up there, and they did look good! (I’ve been on a bit of a pumpkin kick lately. You can see other pumpkin ideas HERE and HERE.)
So what do you think – pumpkins
or no pumpkins? Either way, I’m loving this peach & gold, simple and elegant mantel.
Till next time – Happy Fall!

Your mantel is so unique and original and stunning! I may like it with the white pumpkins a tiny bit more, but honestly both versions are beautiful. I am visiting from Turn About Tuesday.
