White Pumpkins for an Elegant Fall Mantel

It’s time for pumpkins! The leaves are turning, the air’s getting cooler, and I’m finally feeling enough like fall to bring some seasonal decorations inside!

White pumpkins and maple leaves on the mantel!

I love pumpkins, especially the little white ones.  They’re so pretty, and so easy to decorate with – they match everything!

This was a simple mantel, but it really says early fall to me!

White pumpkins of many sizes on the white mantel. Lovely lattice topped wood dark wood mirror, brass candlesticks with white candles. Red and green maple leaves in a copper pitcher with white roses.

We’re in the middle of redoing our living room walls, so right now the wall behind the mantel is a truly “interesting” mix of texture and soft neutral colors! I’d be tempted to leave them this way – I love the interesting mix – but we’ll probably end up painting.  The walls are lath and plaster, and we weren’t sure what condition they’d be in when we took the painted-over wallpaper down!  They were actually in pretty good shape, but there are some cracks from 100 years of settling.  There are also some spots that need re-plastering and etc. We’re going to live with it a while and see what kinds of finishes might present themselves.

Drop me a comment if you know of any ways to repair and seal plaster that still keeps the character.

In the meantime, I’m liking the new textured color scheme!

The new color is what started me thinking about the white pumpkins.  The stores near me are full of them, so I grabbed a couple grocery sacks full, and started in!

The first thing that went up for this arrangement was an antique mirror that came to me from my grandmother.  The silver is starting to go after all these years, but I love that look.

Also, it’s really heavy and solid.  It makes a nice background and I use it on the mantel a lot. I often just leave it up there for extended periods, changing the other decorations around it. I make double sure it’s secure though – it could do some real damage if it fell over!

I’m really loving the copper this season too!  This distressed copper pitcher was perfect for holding some fall leaves from the yard.

I would have loved to have used another copper vase for the left side of the mantel, but most of the rest of my copper is in a box up in the attic!  There was nowhere to put it when we moved in, and it got a bit forgotten up there. I am getting inspired to go rescue it though.  There’s something so cozy about copper in the fall. But since I didn’t have a copper vase, the Italian white marble one peeking out from behind the pumpkins does the job!

And then we have another of my favorites – white roses!  They make everything look so elegant, especially with a neutral color scheme like this one.  They complement the white pumpkins and candles, and contrast with the maple leaves. (I use roses a lot!  See this post for a different look for roses on the mantel!)

After the flowers, it was time to put up the pumpkins!  I messed around with them for quite a while trying to find the perfect arrangement.

These are real pumpkins, but you could certainly use faux.  They look just like the real thing, and last longer too!

There were several different groupings that I liked as I went along, and I had a hard time choosing.  But I did manage to settle on one in the end, and now our mantel is ready for fall!

Thanks so much Lynne! We decided to leave the fireplace wall, and my husband fixed some of the patches that offended me the most. 🤣 Still not sure about the rest of the room … Glad you like them, and thanks so much for stopping over! Hope you have a great weekend.

Love all those sweet little white pumpkins! And I’m kinda ‘diggin’ the wall texture, too!

Hi Julie! Aren’t they fun? So glad you like the wall – we’re still debating it after all this time! 🙂 Happy Saturday my friend!
